And As The Vast Crowds Cheered More Than 1 000 Servicemen And Women Marching Through The City Of London Yesterday National Pride Was Satisfied Without Offensive Pomp. The Queen And Prince Philip Took The Official Salute At The Mansion House Surrounded By Members Of The Royal Family Guests From The Gulf And Leading Politicians. The People Made Their Feelings Clear By Reserving The Biggest Cheer Of The Day For A Smiling Baroness Margaret Thatcher. Sir John Major Was Left To Look Like An Interested Bystander. Neil Kinnock Who Was Less Than Enthusiastic About A Welcome Home Party Was Booed. After The Unrestrained Jingoism Of The American Celebrations The City Put On A Parade That Came And Went In Just Ten Minutes. But As With The Gulf War Itself It Was A Display Of British Professionalism That Made This Subdued Celebration Strike The Right Note. The Parade Was Headed By Desert Rats Commander Brigadier Patrick Cordingley. The City Marshal Colonel Sir John Howard Mounted On A White Horse Gave Him The
