Titanic movie director James Cameron has spoken about the OceanGate submersible tragedy.
The director of the 1997 Oscar-winning movie based on the Titanic’s sinking in 1912 , said the implosion of the Titan with five people on board Titan reminded him of the story behind the wreck they had gone to view.
Speaking to ABC News in the USA Cameron explained: “I'm struck by the similarity of the Titanic disaster itself, where the captain was repeatedly warned about ice ahead of his ship and yet he steamed at full speed into an ice field on a moonless night and many people died as a result.
“This was such a preventable tragedy.
“We’ve never had a tragedy like this in the entire history of deep submergence
deep diving.”
Cameron himself has completed 33 dives to the Titanic wreckage.

NEWS - Titanic-U-Boot-Tragödie: Der Geschäftsführer der Firma Ocean Gate, Stockton Rush, stellt sein U-Boot "Titan" vor
June 19, 2023: Undated handout photo shows Titan, the submersible that vanished on expedition to the Titanic wreckage. A massive search and rescue operation is under way in the mid Atlantic after a tourist submarine went missing during a dive to Titanic's wreck on Sunday. Contact with the small sub was lost about an hour and 45 minutes into its dive, the US Coast Guard said. Tour firm OceanGate said all options were being explored to rescue the five people onboard. Tickets cost $ 250,000 for an eight-day trip including dives to the wreck at a depth of 3,800m (12,500ft). . (Credit Image: © OceanGate via ZUMA Press (FOTO: DUKAS/ZUMA)

Amazing images that bring back to life Titanic in Colour: Photos of One of the Largest Passenger Liners of Its Time Rendered in Full Colour
The RMS Titanic was one of the most opulent liners to have ever been built and the largest steamship in the world. It struck an iceberg on its maiden voyage from Southampton, England, to New York City and sank on April 15, 1912.
Since the discovery of its wreckage in 1985, interest in the ill-fated liner slightly dwindled. Now a century after its sinking, the Titanic remains an enduring and enigmatic subject.
Thomas Schmid of 3D history, is one such person that has been mesmerized by the tale of this fabled ship that was once pronounced unsinkable. Through his work, we are able to travel back in time to see images of the luxury liner, not as they were taken, but rendered in full colour.

This fully-working replica model, which plays music from 1912 and even has Jack and Rose standing on the bow, took to the waters of Canoe Lake for its first trip 100 years after the tragedy in the Atlantic.
The 6-foot-long model was built by Errol Johns, 54, and his friend Paul Kwiatkowski, 28, in just six weeks.
Errol said ''My gran was 14 when the Titanic sunk and knew someone who survived the sinking . I remember watching the film 'A Night to Remember' with her. That's when I became fascinated with the ship''.

The Mini Titanic
The only danger to this Titanic on her maiden voyage was not icebergs but swans!
Errol said ''My gran was 14 when the Titanic sunk and knew someone who survived the sinking. I remember watching the film 'A Night to Remember' with her. That's when I became fascinated with the ship''.
