A fledging dunnock photographed at the Folly Wildlife Rescue Centre in Sussex, UK. Dunnocks (Prunella modularis), often called hedge sparrows, are charasmatic little birds. Always on the move, always interested, the youngsters are plucky little birds with a great expressive face as this one shows.

An adorable project shows the baby birds of Britain in the first days of their lives.
Wildlife photographer Gavin Parsons has worked closely with UK rescue centres to capture chicks bought in for care.
He has spent the last three years photographing some of the baby birds bought into Folly Wildlife Rescue in Sussex and the RSPCA Wildlife Rescue Centre West Hatch in Somerset.
Each year hundreds of hatchlings are bought to rescue centres either after their nests have been disturbed or when they have been mistakenly picked up by well-meaning members of the public after they have fledged.

A juvenile blackbird photographed at Folly Wildlife Rescue centre in Sussex, UK. Backbirds are one of the UK's most recognisable species. Nesting in gardens though means many youngsters end up in rescue centres as their homes are disturbed when the weather turns good and people get out and prune the bushes and shrubs.

Mother polar bear (Ursus maritimus) with two coy (cubs-of-year) on multi-year ice floes in the Barents Sea off the eastern side of Heleysundet in the Svalbard Archipelago, Norway. An adult male weighs around 400?680 kg (880?1,500 lb) while an adult female is about half that size. The IUCN now lists global warming as the most significant threat to the polar bear, primarily because the melting of its sea ice habitat reduces its ability to find sufficient food. The IUCN states, If climatic trends continue polar bears may become extirpated from most of their range within 100 years. On May 14, 2008, the United States Department of the Interior listed the polar bear as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act.
