The highlight of Queen Mary 2's 10th anniversary celebration in her homeport of Southampton today was a visit by His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh. This was the first time His Royal Highness has visited Queen Mary 2 since he accompanied Her Majesty the Queen when she named the liner in Southampton on 8 January 2004. Prior to attending a reception and lunch on board His Royal Highness visited several behind-the-scenes crew areas and met with crew who perform several different roles on board. He spent time in the ship's laundry, crew gymnasium, crew training room / library and in one of the crew bars. It was here he signed a photograph taken of the ship's crew in Sydney in February 2014. He was given a tour of the largest Bridge at sea prior to being invited to sound the ship's whistle and sign the Visitor's Book. At a special Reception he unveiled a portrait of Queen Mary 2 by maritime artist Robert Lloyd that had been commissioned by Cunard.

In dry-dock at Southampton for her Festival year overhaul , the world's largest liner ' Queen Elizabeth ' has a strange resemblance to the ' Vertical feature ' that will tower over the Exhibiition grounds on London's South Bank. The Cunarder, bulking her 83,000 tons in King George V dry-dock , is having a five weeks overhaul in preparation for a busy festival of Britain season. Nearly 2,000 workmen are busy on her , cleaning and examining machinery, superstructre and interior. Four thousand gallons of paint will be used on the hull and interior of the ship. The liner will make her next sailing to New York on 8 February

Dead on schedule, the veteran liner 'Aquitania' completed her 443 and last voyage when she arrived at the wartime secret military port of Faslane, on the Gareloch, Scotland, where she will be broken up.
All along the coast and from the banks of the Clyde, her birthplace, the 44,786 ton Cunarder was given a last farewell by groups of watchers. 'Aquitania' estimated to have steamed more than three million miles and carried more than a million passengers during her peace and wartime career, will yield some 36,000 tons of scrap. Even in eclipse she will be serving Britain, the metal will be re fashioned an used by Clyde shipyards in new vessels.

All along the coast and from the banks of the Clyde, her birthplace, the 44,786 ton Cunarder was given a last farewell by groups of watchers. 'Aquitania' estimated to have steamed more than three million miles and carried more than a million passengers during her peace and wartime career, will yield some 36,000 tons of scrap. Even in eclipse she will be serving Britain, the metal will be re fashioned an used by Clyde shipyards in new vessels.

The house flag of the 44,786 ton Cunarder 'Aquitania' last of the four funellers, fluttered down from the main today (Saturday) at Southampton and brought to an end 35 years service in peace and war.
As the flag was hauled down a bugler of the Southampton Police Band sounded 'Sunset'.
Tomorrow 'Aquitania' leaves Southampton for the breakers yards on the Clyde.
Taking her up will be her master, Captain R B G Woollatt.

LINER ' CARONIA ' SCRAPES PLATES BERTHING AT SOUTHAMPTON IN GALE .
The 35,000- ton Cunard white star liner ' Caronia ' home from New York, was caught while berthing at Southampton by 60 mile-per-hour wind driven against the quay wall today.
Although major damage was not sustained, about 30 feet of the liners plates were scraped and the concrete walls of the new Southampton docks suffered some cracks.
