Has the Duchess of Cambridge accidentally let slip that she is expecting a daughter? While out and about in Grimsby Catherine stopped to chat with one well-wisher who handed her a stuffed bear. In response Kate reportedly said: "Thank you, I will take that for my d...." before cutting herself off. A woman nearby who overheard the exchange then said to her: "You were going to say daughter, weren't you?'" The Duchess replied "No, we don (FOTO:DUKAS/REX)

Super Salmon Battle Against The Current
An intrepid British photographer battled the elements to capture on film the biggest salmon migration for almost 100 years.

Alex Mustard bravely withstood strong river currents as he photographed some of the 34 million bright pink fish underwater as they headed home en masse to spawn.

The incredible sight of the sockeye salmon battling their way upstream has baffled scientists, who are shocked at this year's large number of fish.

Amazingly, last year there were only around one million recorded making the 1,000 mile journey.

Underwater photographer Alex, 35, travelled from his home in Southampton, Hants, to British Columbia, Canada, to catch the spectacular phenomenon.

The fish are born in the country's Fraser River System before heading out to the Gulf of Alaska and then returning when they are four years old to spawn before they die.

While in the ocean the salmon are actually a silver colour and only turn pink just before heading back into the fresh water to send a signal to potential mates.

The event happens each year, with a big migration every four years, although the last time so many fish thronged the river was in 1913.

Alex said: "Since I was a child I have taken underwater photographs and this year I thought it would be great to see the salmon migration.

"I flew to Canada, to a stretch of river where most of the fish go. When I got there the sight was incredible - just millions of fish swimming upstream.

"Some people who saw it were in tears, it was actually quite powerful to see the fish heading home to spawn before they die.

"I would stay in the water with my camera for 10 hours each day for over a week with a snorkel.

"It was quite brutal because the current is so strong.

"There is a constant stream of fis...

Aisha Gaddafi - Daughter Of A Dictator
As the daughter of Libyan leader Colonel Gaddafi, Aisha Gaddafi is no stranger to controversy.

Indeed the woman known as the "The Claudia Schiffer of North Africa" is not afraid to make her sometimes contentious beliefs known.

Following the death of her adopted sister Hanna, Aisha is Muammar Abu Minyar al-Gaddafi's only daughter from his eight children

The 33-year-old, who lives in Tripoli with her husband, a cousin of her father's, and their three children, is a lawyer by profession and is also a trained criminal psychologist.

She has previously spoken in support of her father's regime, claiming that his portrayal in the West is unfair and down to the 'political agenda' of some.

Showing her support for another famous Arab leader, three years ago she was on the legal team that defended ousted Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein.

Previously, she has also backed Lockerbie bomber Abdelbaset al Megrahi, saying he deserves compensation for being locked up unjustly.

Meanwhile, the charity group that came out in defence of Iraqi journalist Muntadhar al-Zaidi after he hurled his shoe at then American president George W Bush in 2008 is said to be led by Aisha.

Like her father, in the past Aisha has also been a vocal backer of the IRA.

Conversely, she is also well known in Libya for promoting women's rights, particularly when it comes to domestic violence and honour crimes.

Last year she was appointed as a UN Goodwill Ambassador in recognition of her work raising awareness of women's rights, poverty and HIV.

    Matching Outfits (6) - 2010

Someone wearing the same dress as them!? It's enough to depress any fashion forward starlet.

Picking an outfit already seen gracing the body of another is an occupational hazard when you're a celeb.

But when there's only so many designers looks to go around identikit stars are sometimes inevitable.

And when the inevitable happens comparisons are simply unavoidable.

All a star can do is cross their fingers and hope that they come out top of the frocks.

After all, it doesn't matter who wore it first - it's all about who wore it best.

Oops! What were they thinking? (3)
1210147 COM - What were they thinking? Fashion Disasters

It would seem that even the most fashion conscious of celebs can have an off day.

The stylists of these dreadfully dressed divas were obviously not around when they stepped out of the front door.

If they had they surely would have uttered that immortal line: "You're not going out like that!"

When left unattended there's no end of fashion faux pas a star can commit when looking for a 'stand out from the crowd' outfit.

But then looking fabulous 24/7 is something not even the most dedicated of A-listers can achieve.

And navigating the tricky minefield of fashion can be tricky at the best of times and pure style suicide at the worst.

Your 'unusual' outfit can just as easily be feted on every best dressed list as see you plunging to the bottom of the reject pile.

All of which goes to show that not even the hottest stars are immune to the odd fashion disaster.

GREAT GREY OWL SWOOPS TO CONQUER

These pictures show a Great Grey Owl as it swoops on a tiny meadow vole trying to scurry across a snow-covered field.

The wise bird has a face shaped like a radar dish, which helps it locate its prey buried up to one foot below the snow.

The 16cm (6 inches) vole stood little chance as the bird launched its silent attack with its wings spread 140cm (4.5 feet) wide.

It had been sitting in a tree overlooking the field in Bobcaygeon Ontario, Canada, in temperatures of -15 degrees Celsius.

Photographer Jody Melanson, 47, travelled an hour to get the pictures after receiving a tip-off that the Great Grey Owl was there.

He said: "I found the owl after five minutes of searching. He was sitting in a tree hunting.

"When he heard or saw something edible he swooped down and grabbed the vole.

"Great Grey Owls can hear prey a foot below the snow.

"The owls facial disk is shaped like a radar dish and they use their ears to pinpoint the prey's location.

"There is no chase. The owl hears, silently swoops in and pounces on the prey.

    "The owl seldom misses."

He added: "My main love is being at one with nature and spending time photographing and getting to know more about the subjects I pho...

MICHELLE OBAMA GETS HER OWN FIGURE

Behind every strong man stands a.... SIX INCH high woman.

A wacky company have made an action figure of Michelle Obama.

US-based Jailbreak Toys decided to release the $14.99 First Lady following the success of their Barrack doll.

The plastic dolls come with a choice of three dress styles - red, purple or flora - and feature Mrs Obama's characteristic beaming smile.

Company founder Jason Feinberg explains: "Following our Barack Obama figure we simply had to create a Michelle.

"They have a special chemistry between them and putting the two figures together really strikes a chord.

"Barack was getting lonely on my shelf - now he's got some company"

Barack Obama meets with Congressional Leaders and Economic Advisors, Washington DC, America - 05 Jan 2009
President-elect Barack Obama has described the US economy as "very sick" and predicted the situation will worsen. His comments came before a meeting with Congressional leaders in an attempt to get them to back his proposed $300 billion 'American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan', which aims to 'create or save' three million jobs by 2011 and which contains tax breaks for individuals and businesses. The meeting came as part of a series of talks on what was Obama’s first day of work since moving from Chicago to Washington. During the day he also met with Nancy Pelosi, the Democratic speaker of the House of Congress, and Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid. As well as talks with his fellow Democrats, Obama also spoke with opposition Republican leaders from the Senate and House of Representatives, as part of his efforts to win bipartisan support for his recovery plan.

Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall walking her dog, Sandringham, Norfolk, Britain - 05 Dec 2008
An ever practical Duchess of Cornwall wrapped up warm today to brave the cold and windy conditions while walking her dog. In wellington boots, gloves and a heavy waterproof jacket, which she wore with the hood pulled up, Camilla didn't seemed phased by the weather. She kept a smile on her face as she and her sister and other friends strolled around Sandringham. Not even being photographed in such a windswept and less than glamorous state seemed to bother the royal who, clutching a walking stick, looked ready for a long hike.
