An Indiana Jones bullwhip that once belonged to the late Princess Diana has sold at auction for $525,000 USD / €451.740 euros.
The whip was used by Harrison Ford in the third Indiana movie, The Last Crusade which came out in 1989.
It was seen on screen during the movie climax where Indiana must choose the goblet used by Christ at the last supper.
Ford presented it to Britain’s Prince Charles, then Prince of Wales, now king, at the film’s royal charity premiere in London June 27, 1989.
It was then given as a gift to the royal’s wife, Diana the Princess of Wales.
According to US saleroom Heritage Auctions which sold it, she gave it to the current owner, who was not identified. The buyer also was not identified.
Heritage executive vice president Joe Maddalena said the bullwhip was “an iconic symbol of an iconic character of cinema history.”
The whip sale included a letter from movie production company Lucasfilm sent to the London address of Charles and Diana at St. James Palace at the time confirming its origin.
This bullwhip appears during sequences inside the Grail Temple as Indiana Jones is about to face three lethal challenges protecting the Holy Grail in the Grail Knight's chambers.
