to mark the launch of new intercity train operator, Britain - 04 Apr 2016

The Star is designed to reflect that this is a region that?s going places and
that people, places and ideas make it happen.?
As an esteemed local talent in her field, Julia will also be part of the TransPennine Express ?Where Next? Project?, a mentoring programme launching in May that will find, nurture and showcase talent from the route TransPennine Express serves ? supporting the development and growth of the region. Pigeons are now on patrol in our skies thanks to a new initiative...
The Pigeon Air Patrol has enlisted ten pigeons in London and equipped them with a nitrogen dioxide monitors to help asses the level of air pollution in the city.
The pigeons have been given 'back-packs' that have 25-gram sensor to measure the pollution level.
Of course, the pigeons can tweet too..and curious Londoners can contact the birds' social media page @pigeonair to ask what the pollution rate is in their postcode. With help from research lab Plume labs, a response will be generated, letting tweeters know whether their area is in a 'moderate' or 'extreme' pollution zone.

Photographer Mikael Buck with assistance from renowned local Icelandic guide Einar Runar Sigurdsson, explored the frozen world of Vatnajökull glacier in Iceland using Sony's world first back-illuminated full-frame sensor, which features in the 7R II camera. His images were taken without use of a tripod or any image stitching techniques in photoshop. This was made possible through Sony's new sensor technology, allowing incredibly detailed low-light hand held photography. Previously images this detailed would have required carrying bulky equipment to the caves, some of which can require hiking and climbing over a glacier for up to two hours to to access. The images were taken without the use of any external sources - just the natural light that filters through the ice caves.

A slurp of coffee is often one of the first things that touches our mouths in the morning, so a designer has created a cup lid with lips.
Jang WooSeok from Sunchon, Korea, came up with what he calls "The 'Coffee Lid : Take 'Kiss' Out" as a fun but functional concept.
The industrial designer explains: "Different from the other coffee lids which have a usual hole to put a straw or to drink directly, Take 'Kiss' Out looks like a human face. Therefore, a coffee drinker experiences a visually funny and emotionally different coffee when drinking."
