The Holy Week is the annual tribute of the Passion of Jesus Christ. Celebrations of this Catholic event in Spain are sumptuous and renowned worldwide. Almost every Spanish city during the last week of Lent, the one anticipating Easter, have brotherhoods performing penance processions. These associations originated in Medieval times, membership is open and family tradition is key to become a hermano (brother). The most illustrious events happen in Andalusia: Cordoba, Granada, Malaga and every village host some celebration but the Semana Santa in Seville stands out as the most magnificent: from Palm Sunday to Easter day, tens of colourful processions walk the city centre relentlessly for a week.
