YARD OFFICERS SEEK WANTED MAN ABOARD LINER

    3 FEBRUARY 1950

Viewing luggage left aboard the 'Ile de France' by 25 year old Edouard Gavron, sought by Scotland Yard officers who sailed through a gale from Southampton to board the American bound liner.
Detectives combed cabins and decks but failed to find Gavron, who is alleged to have committed forgeries in several countries. Sums totalling £50,000 are said to be involved. In a cabin on 'B' deck aboard the liner, a Scotland Yard officer found a dilapidated blue suitcase, a green American Army kitbag and a green valise. French police, who had alerted Scotland Yard, had earlier searched the baggage. Gavron was still missing when the liner sailed for New York. (FOTO:DUKAS/TOPFOTO)

JUMBO HOSTEL: JOIN THE METER-HIGH CLUB

Here's an idea that will never take off - a hostel aboard a JUMBO JET.

The world's first built guesthouse onboard a real Boeing 747-200 has touched down at Stockholm Arlanda Airport.

Guests (or is that passengers?) have the chance to sleep in the cockpit of the aircraft - which comes complete with throttle controls.

You can even wake up to the sight of real planes taxiing on the airport's runways through the windows.

The staff also dress as cabin crew - with many of them actually former air hosts and hostesses.

The plane has a reception and lounge area, complete with candlelit tables and a retro company logo, and a choice of 25 rooms.

Prices ranging from GBP 29 for a dorm bed to GBP 275 for the cockpit double, which includes private bathroom and breakfast, meaning this overnighter offers both budget flight and long haul-equivalent prices.

"It's just fantastic and unbelievably exciting to finally be able to show something so unique and special for the rest of the world," says Gisela Olsson, Site Manager at the Jumbo Hostel.

Originally delivered to Singapore Airlines in 1976, the jet also spent time in Cathay and Pan Am fleets.

But now it is grounded indefinitely could be there be any better way to join the TEN METRE-high club

Baby Orangutan Cruises To New Home In Style
A critically endangered orangutan abandoned by his mum has cruised to a new home in comfort - in his own first class cabin.

Baby Silvestre - who celebrates his first birthday on New Year's Eve - dined on citrus fruit and milk as he made the 24-hour crossing to Portsmouth, Hants.

Brittany Ferries gave the nappy-wearing primate a private four-bed suite for the 690-mile trip aboard the Cap Finistere from Santander, Spain.

Silvestre spent most of his time exploring his surroundings and swinging from ladders and bunkbeds in his 150 pounds-a-night room.

But he was also allowed to visit Captain Patrick Thomas on the bridge.

Keepers at Santillana Zoo, Spain, raised the Sumatran orangutan by hand for 11 months after his mum simply put him down and walked away.

The keepers also accompanied him on his trip.
