Look, no hands! Google made headlines last year with their autonomous car, but now a truck has been launched that can drive itself.

The Freightliner Inspiration Truck is the first licensed autonomous commercial truck to operate on an open public highway in the United States.

Developed by engineers at Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA), it is claimed to "unlock autonomous vehicle advancements that reduce accidents, improve fuel consumption, cut highway congestion, and safeguard the environment."

The truck was unveiled in a spectacular evening ceremony at the Hoover Dam on Tuesday (5 May).

Julian Assange to be granted political asylum in Ecuador, Ecuadorian embassy, London, Britain - 16 Aug 2012
Ecuador's president, Rafael Correa, has agreed to grant Julian Assange asylum, officials say, but the Home Office has threatened to overturn the embassy's diplomatic rights to arrest Assange.

The WikiLeaks founder has been holed up at Ecuador's London embassy since 19 June, when he officially requested political asylum.

On Monday, Correa told state-run ECTV that he would decide this week whether to grant asylum to Assange. Correa said a large amount of material about international law had to be examined to make a responsible, informed decision.

It remains unclear if Assange will be allowed to leave Britain and fly to Ecuador, or amounts to little more than a symbolic gesture.

Julian Assange to be granted political asylum in Ecuador, Ecuadorian embassy, London, Britain - 15 Aug 2012
Ecuador's president, Rafael Correa, has agreed to grant Julian Assange asylum, officials within Ecuador's government have said. The WikiLeaks founder has been holed up at Ecuador's London embassy since 19 June, when he officially requested political asylum.

"Ecuador will grant asylum to Julian Assange," said an official in the Ecuadorean capital, Quito, who is familiar with the government discussions.

On Monday, Correa told state-run ECTV that he would decide this week whether to grant asylum to Assange. Correa said a large amount of material about international law had to be examined to make a responsible, informed decision.
