The Aurora overhead as people watch on at Kerið (occasionally Anglicized as Kerith or Kerid) is a volcanic crater lake located in the Grímsnes area in south Iceland, along the Golden Circle. It is one of several crater lakes in the area, known as Iceland's Western Volcanic Zone, which includes the Reykjanes peninsula and the Langjökull Glacier, created as the land moved over a localized hotspot, but it is the one that has the most visually recognizable caldera still intact.

The caldera, like the other volcanic rock in the area, is composed of a red (rather than black) volcanic rock. The caldera itself is approximately 55 m (180 ft) deep, 170 m (560 ft) wide, and 270 m (890 ft) across. Kerið's caldera is one of the three most recognizable volcanic craters because at approximately 3,000 years old, it is only half the age of most of the surrounding volcanic features. The other two are Seyðishólar and Kerhóll.
While most of the crater is steep-walled with little vegetation, one wall is sloped more gently and blanketed with a deep moss, and can be descended fairly easily. The lake itself is fairly shallow (7-14 metres, depending on rainfall and other factors), but due to minerals from the soil, is an opaque and strikingly vivid aquamarine.

British photographer Tim Plowden lives in a wild corner of Singapore that is also called home by a family of smooth-coated otters. The photographer has been keeping track of the adorable animals throughout 2017 as they have successfully raised a clutch six cubs. Their territory stretches along several miles of coastline, a network of mangrove rivers as well as urbanised sections of river and parkland. And Tim isn't the only person to be enchanted by the furry family with many locals having also taken them to heart. Tim comments: ?The playfulness of the cubs is enchanting and I love how strong their family bonds are. They always look out for each other and if they are apart for any length of time they greet each other with such exuberance it makes you appreciate just how close their family ties really are".

Plans for the new 'World's Tallest' tower have been unveiled...
Emaar Properties, the leading Dubai-based global property developer and builder of the world's tallest building, Burj Khalifa, have unveiled plans to build a new tower, which will be the largest in the World.
The Tower is anticipated to be slightly taller than the 2,716 ft high Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building since 2009, and is projected to cost $1 billion (GBP 700 million). Construction is planned to start in July 2016 with a four year construction programme.
With a design inspired by the lily and traditional minaret towers, The Tower will serve as an architectural icon, ready for the Dubai World Expo in 2020. Around a reinforced concrete core, The Tower will have a slender glass and steel façade.

A doctor who has been dubbed the 'Swedish Fritzl' is accused of raping and kidnapping a woman he planned to hold captive in an underground 'sex' dungeon. According to reports, the unnamed man used strawberries laced with Rohypnol to drug his 38-year-old and rape her at her home. He then put her in a wheelchair and drove her back to his home where, over the course of several years, he had created a secret underground bunker. He allegedly imprisoned the woman here for a week while raping and sexually abusing her. The man allegedly panicked after learning his victim had been reported missing. After threatening her with a gun he drove her to a police station so she could tell them she was fine. However, officers became suspicious and pulled the woman aside. The man has allegedly admitted drugging, kidnapping and holding the woman against her will, but denies rape.

In Japan, cherry blossoms symbolise 'clouds'. Due to their nature of blooming en masse, besides being an enduring metaphor for the ephemeral nature of life. TRAGIC MARILYN'S FINAL POSSESSIONS UP FOR SALE
A rare sale of Marilyn Monroe's personal possessions will feature a robe purported to be the last item of clothing she wore.
The assembled items include clothing from her personal and professional wardrobe and furniture from her Brentwood, California hacienda style home.
The items offer a rare glimpse into the personal life of the tragic legend who resided in the Brentwood home until her death.
Among over 150 items offered for sale is a white terry cloth robe ($8,000 - 10,000) claimed to be the last item of clothing Monroe wore before her death.
This is also an umbrella Monroe held for an iconic photograph taken by Andre de Dienes in 1949 at Tobey Beach.
Other highlights from Marilyn's Brentwood home include; an orange Pucci blouse ($7,000-9,000), Monroe's dining room table (est. $10,000/12,000), living room coffee table (est. $8,000/10,000), Mexican tile table (est. $500/1,000), set of four living room folding benches (est. $5,000/7,000), Mexican framed mirror (est. $3,000/5,000), and other fine & decorative art pieces.

RARE EARLY COLOUR PHOTOS DISCOVERED IN CUPBOARD
A collection of historic images which signalled the dawn of colour photography have been discovered in a cupboard.

Heart of London Business Alliance, Veolia and Westminster City Council introduced the Hart of London, a Christmas sculpture designed to remind the public of the importance of minimising plastic waste consumption over the festive season. The life size, illuminated deer is made out of 2,000 plastic bottles and includes 'tap donation' technology, lighting up with every tap received to donate to charity, whilst creating a magical festive moment for visitors.

The Aurora overhead as people watch on at Kerið (occasionally Anglicized as Kerith or Kerid) is a volcanic crater lake located in the Grímsnes area in south Iceland, along the Golden Circle. It is one of several crater lakes in the area, known as Iceland's Western Volcanic Zone, which includes the Reykjanes peninsula and the Langjökull Glacier, created as the land moved over a localized hotspot, but it is the one that has the most visually recognizable caldera still intact.

The caldera, like the other volcanic rock in the area, is composed of a red (rather than black) volcanic rock. The caldera itself is approximately 55 m (180 ft) deep, 170 m (560 ft) wide, and 270 m (890 ft) across. Kerið's caldera is one of the three most recognizable volcanic craters because at approximately 3,000 years old, it is only half the age of most of the surrounding volcanic features. The other two are Seyðishólar and Kerhóll.
While most of the crater is steep-walled with little vegetation, one wall is sloped more gently and blanketed with a deep moss, and can be descended fairly easily. The lake itself is fairly shallow (7-14 metres, depending on rainfall and other factors), but due to minerals from the soil, is an opaque and strikingly vivid aquamarine.
