The witness who saw hm said he tried to warn police and security services but they seemed not to know what to do.
Greg Smith said the man had crawled on top of a building just outside the event in Butler County on Friday evening.
He said he noticed the man armed and bear crawling up the roof after Trump had been speaking for around five to seven minutes.
He recalled: ”We noticed the guy bear-crawling up the roof of the building beside us, 50ft away from us.

A man with a rifle was seen on a rooftop minutes before shots were fired at a Donald Trump rally in Pennsylvania.
The witness who saw hm said he tried to warn police and security services but they seemed not to know what to do.
Greg Smith said the man had crawled on top of a building just outside the event in Butler County on Friday evening.
He said he noticed the man armed and bear crawling up the roof after Trump had been speaking for around five to seven minutes.
He recalled: ”We noticed the guy bear-crawling up the roof of the building beside us, 50ft away from us.
"He had a rifle, we could clearly see him with a rifle.
"We're pointing at him, the police are down there running around on the ground, we're like 'Hey man, there's a guy on the roof with a rifle’."

Fatal shooting in Ilford

Black plastic covers the front door of a house and an evidence tent sits on the drive next door as police forensics officers gather evidence in Henley Road, Ilford after a fatal shooting. Police are investigating after two men were fatally shot, and a third left critically injured, following an incident in Ilford. Police were called to Henley Road, Ilford, following reports of a fight in progress and shots fired. Armed officers were among those responding. At the scene officers found three men with gunshot injuries. One of the victims, aged in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. Another of the victims died a short time later. Police believe they know the identity of the victim in his 20s. Work to confirm the identity of the other man is ongoing. The third victim, aged in his 30s, was taken to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.
