A Freedom flotilla made up of Gaza boats raising the Palestinian flag set sail from waters off Gaza. Palestinians in Gaza have been staging weekly demonstrations in the northern Gaza Strip for nearly a year to protest against Israel’s 12-year naval blockade, which has limited the permitted fishing zone for Palestinian fishermen in the Gaza Sea. While some of the demonstrators hurled stones towards the fence the Israeli army fired live ammunition and tear gas canisters to suppress the protest. November 16, 2018 - number of Palestinian protesters are injured during clashes with the Israeli army on the east of Gaza City on 16 November 2018. Thousands of Palestinians had gathered in five locations along the Gaza Border this Friday for the weekly Great March of Return protest, with few of them approaching the border fence and hurling stones at Israeli troops on the other side of the border. Dozens of Palestinian demonstrators were injured by rubber and live bullets and tear gas, and Palestinian journalist Ibrahim al-Madhoun was injured in his face by a rubber bullet. Since March 2018 thousands of Gaza demonstrators have gathered every Friday along the border with Israel in protest against the Israeli siege on Gaza and in support of the right of Palestinian refugees to return to the land lost around the founding of Israel in 1948. This week Great March of Return has taken place while an Egyptian brokered ceasefire is in place between Israel and Gaza following a recent major escalation of violence between the two (FOTO: DUKAS/ZUMA)
