Design Cycle by Kevin Scott from De Montfort University
Young Designers 2 show, Business Design Centre, Islington, Britain - 07 Jul 2010
With students struggling to find work nowadays recent graduates can find securing a decent position involves a lot of legwork. However, one student is hoping to ease that strain by quite literally getting on his bike in order to find a job. 21-year-old Kevin Scott has recently graduated after studying design at De Montfort University. But unlike most students, who only leave university with a hangover and a large debt, Kevin also has his unique invention - a folding bike with a difference. We've all seen the strangely shaped folding bikes touted by commuters but Kevin's clever invention is a normal bike that can neatly be folded in two. The bendy bikes bisects down the centre thanks to a ratchet system, making its easy to store in small spaces. As such, finding a spot to lock it up on London's busy streets is a cinch - you simply wrap it around the nearest lamppost. Kevin and his design can currently be seen at the Young Designers 2 show at the Business Design Centre in Islington.

Impressionist and Modern Art sale. Sotheby's. London, Britain - 06 Feb 2008
Despite worries about recession, close to £117m was spent at Sotheby's during a recent Impressionist and Modern Art sale. The sale was the auction house's most expensive impressionist sale ever, with 60% of the 79 lots being sold over and above their high estimates. The event was the first in a swathe of sales that will see a series of impressionist, modern, post-war and contemporary works by some of the world's most famous artists go under the hammer at sales by Sotheby's and rival Christie's.

Renoir's La Loge (The Theatre Box) attracted much interest and sold for £7.4m, when the estimate had been £3.5m.
