A folk troupe perform at the celebration ceremony of the China National Tourism Day in Ninghai, east China's Zhejiang Province, May 19, 2011. A grand ceremony was held Thursday to mark the first China National Tourism Day. Numerous Chinese and foreign tourists gathered in Ninghai, where 398 years ago Xu Xiake, a famed travel writer of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), departed on exactly the same day to begin his 30 years of travel through the country and penned his masterpiece "Travel Notes of Xu Xiake." The Chinese government announced last month that the newly-established tourism day will fall on May 19 each year, the date when Xu Xiake started writing his famous travel books.
