Photographer Valerio Berdini spent days walking the streets of Lisbon, trying to put into pictures the most peculiar of Portuguese feelings: 'Saudade'.

Saudade is a Portuguese word that has no direct translation in English.

It describes a deep emotional state of nostalgic or profound melancholic longing for an absent something or someone that one loves. Moreover, it often carries a repressed knowledge that the object of longing may never return.

Photos Capture Colombian Fans Excitement As They Continue To Impress In World Cup
A Czech photojournalist has captured the passion and excitement of Colombian fans as the country's football team continues to succeed through the last stages of the World Cup.

Jan Sochor, who, is currently based in Quito, Ecuador has been exploring Colombia since 2004.

The 39-year-old visited the country last week (24-28 June) and witnessed patriotic fans reactions to Colombia beating Japan and Uruguay in the World Cup.

"I visit Colombia every 2-3 months, usually for couple of weeks, working on a particular story/project. To be honest, Colombia is a country of my heart. In spite of its violent fame, I consider Colombian people the most cordial and loving people in all Latin America."

However the experienced photojournalist had not planned on creating a photo series throughout his trip.

He explains: "Seriously, I did not plan it. I just had an idea. When I arrived in Cali, I simply got caught up in the football atmosphere.

"The way Caleños (people from Cali) live with the World Cup was so impressive, so passionate and so emotional, that I impulsively decided to try and take images on my iPhone. I wanted to capture the Colombian football fever."

Jan took the photos while watching Colombia win both matches against Japan and Uruguay last week. (Colombia defeated both teams (2,0 against Uruguay & 4,1 against Japan).

As the photojournalist had not planned the project, he h...

'It's A Girl': Medium Claims To Know Sex of Royal Baby From Princess Diana

A medium, who once appeared on GMTV with Lorraine Kelly, has claimed she can see and speak to Princess Diana who has told her the royal baby will be a girl.

Carolina Bruce from Knaresborough in North Yorkshire regularly communicates with the late Princess who has allegedly appeared declaring to be back in the form of an archangel - someone who's lived on Earth and crossed over.

During one of her many conversations with the Princess of Wales, Carolina has claimed the spirit of Diana envisaged her grandchild will also be born on her birthday - July 1st.

Even though the 56-year-old has said she believes the baby will be a girl by spiritual rights, a phrase describing God's decision, she doesn't know whether the world will accept another female like Diana, declaring 'the world crucified her like Jesus Christ'.

The mum-of-two said she began talking with Diana soon after her tragic death in 1997 and even sold her 400-year-old chocolate-box cottage when she received a message in the middle of the night from Diana telling her to move house.

With little hesitation Carolina put her house on the market and waited for the next sign from Princess Diana.

A few weeks later the cottage had sold but Diana still hadn't told Carolina where to go.

"I thought I had got the message wrong," explained Carolina.

However, the message finally came in the form of a glowing house.

Carolina explained: "I was mediating in a cemetery one day when I noticed that the house on the grounds was for sale by auction. I looked inside but it was really ru...

Since its initial establishment suggested to be in the 3rd century, the stupa has undergone several reconstructions until the 1930s due to foreign invasions to the area. It is generally regarded as the most important national monument in Laos and a national symbol.

The Golden Chariot, a luxury train that tours heritage sites in Karnataka, Southern India - Apr 2009
THE GOLDEN CHARIOT - KARNATAKA'S LUXURY TRAIN

Visitors to Southern India can enjoy a luxurious voyage of discovery thanks to a veritable 'palace on wheels' - the Golden Chariot.

This five-star train transports tourists between sites of cultural and historic interest throughout the Indian state of Karnataka.

While the neighbouring states of Kerala and Goa are firmly established on the tourist trail, Karnataka is only just entering the mass consciousness of international travellers.

With poor roads, no real air access and only limited hotels the state has remained largely untouched.

However, the Golden Chariot is now opening up this area and revealing its many wonders, all of which are encapsulated under the region's "One State, Many Worlds" slogan.

And the concept of exploring India's heritage sites from the opulent surroundings of a train that comes complete with its very own spa is proving increasingly popular.

The Golden Chariot's journey begins in Bangalore's Yeshwanthpur railway station before it embarks on a seven day tour that winds its way through Karnataka, stopping at some of its impressive heritage sites, and eventually finishing in Goa.

Those who embark on this journey can enjoy a host of luxuries that are packed into the eighteen coaches that form the Golden Chariot.

Eleven of these carriages are given over to sleeping quarters named after the dynasties - such as Rashtrakuta, Vijayanagara and Chalukya - which formerly ruled over territories in Karnataka.

Each of the carriages, which cost around $350 per night for double occupancy, have a full-time coach attendant who provides an attentive, butler-like service.

The decor of each cabin draws its inspiration from Karnataka's...

PET LOVING JAPANESE PRAY FOR ANIMAL GOOD HEALTH

Celebrating the New Year in Japan means paying special attention to the "first" time something is done in the new year.

For example, Hatsuhinode is the first sunrise of the year, while hatsu-uri is the first shopping sale of the new year.

One of the most important 'firsts' is Hatsumode, which is the first trip to a shrine or temple.

For people this event normally takes place after midnight on December 31 or sometime during the day on January 1.

But the animal loving Japanese would never leave their pets out of the New Year good fortune.

So, one of the other important New Year firsts is a visit to a shrine with their beloved pet in order to pray for the animal's good health in the coming year.

In Tokyo this type of ceremony is held at Ichigaya Kamegaoka Hachimangu shrine; here, as part of the ceremony, pets and their owners step through a large straw rope circle.

Stepping through this sacred circle helps to purify both body and soul, and a priest of the shrine also prays for good health and fortune for the animal.
