Manta Rays feeding at Hanifaru Bay, Baa Atoll, Maldives - 22 Nov 2012

Manta rays feeding at Hanifaru Bay, Baa Atoll, Maldives. The manta rays congregate in numbers up to 100, to filter feed on on the plankton carried into the bay by currents.
Snorkeler Swims Into Manta Rays At Feeding Time
These amazing images of manta rays look like something from a wildlife documentary.
Taken by British photographer Ed Brown who spent time in the Maldives to capture these beautiful creatures, the manta rays swoop gracefully past him as they feed on plankton and fish larvae.
Manta Rays filter their food from the water passing through their gills as they swim.
Ed was snorkelling at Hanifaru Bay in Baa Atoll when he came across 30 mantas gliding through the ocean, the majority following one behind the other.
He said: "The mantas had wingspans of approximately four metres and looked like underwater bats.
"Hanifaru Bay is protected as huge numbers of manta rays (up to 100 or more) congregate to feed on the plankton that has been swept into the bay by currents.
"Diving has been banned at Hanifaru Bay to protect the marine life so only snorkelling is permitted."

Floating golf course concept
Maldives Build GBP 320 million Floating Golf Course
Dreams will come true for die-hard golfers as the Maldives build a floating golf course overlooking coral reefs and connected by underwater tunnels.
Featuring 18 holes the course will be made up of several artificial islands floating in the Indian Ocean all will contain two or three holes each.
Luxury accommodation overlooking the golf course is proposed island and will be linked to the course by more underwater tunnels.
The project will be powered by solar energy in an attempt to be environmental friendly and will work in co-operation with the Maldives' rising sea levels.
Dutch Docklands a company who has a reputation for producing zero-carbon footprint projects are the developers behind this latest floating design.
They claim that the golf island will "not damage the Maldives region."
The project will be designed by Dutch firm Waterstudio and industry leader of golf development, Troon Golf have already been signed up to assist with the design of the golf course itself.
Due for completion in 2015 the course will be strategically located five minutes from the airport to attract stop-over golfers.
