Astronaut Scott Kelly's best pictures from year in space - 2016

As the two year-long inhabitants of the International Space Station touch back down to Earth near the town of Zhezkazgan, Kazakhstan on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 (Kazakh time), we select the best images snapped from space by Commander Scott Kelly of NASA.

The Soyuz TMA-18M spacecraft returned with Expedition 46 Commander Kelly of NASA and Russian cosmonauts Mikhail Kornienko and Sergey Volkov. Kelly and Kornienko completed an International Space Station record year-long mission to collect valuable data on the effect of long duration weightlessness on the human body that will be used to formulate a human mission to Mars.

With large, beady eyes and bold yellow and blue markings the clever caterpillar manages to scares off its predators by pretending to be a snake.

In reality the brightly coloured creature is just a few centimetres long but its large piercing fake eyes make it look much bigger.

These Spicebush Swallowtail caterpillars were photographed by wildlife biologist Jonathan Mays in Maine, America.

He comments: "Swallowtail caterpillars are beautiful creatures. They strike a sense of wonder from many observers.

"Swallowtails have spots on their head that mimic snake eyes and are amazing to view.

"The disguise is very lifelike, so much so that even the reflection or eye-shine changes when viewed from different angles.

Hubble uncovers a galaxy pair coming in from the wilderness - 11 Aug 2016
NASA announced Thursday (11 Aug) that the Hubble Space Telescope uncovered two tiny dwarf galaxies that have wandered from a vast cosmic wilderness into a nearby ?big city? packed with galaxies. After being idle for billions of years, NASA say they are "ready to party" by starting a firestorm of star birth.

Hubble captured the glow of new stars in these small, ancient galaxies, called Pisces A and Pisces B. Observations suggests the galaxies are late bloomers because they have spent most of their existence in the Local Void, a region of the universe sparsely populated with galaxies. The Local Void is roughly 150 million light-years across.

IKEA has launched a new range of soft toys designed by children for children, featuring a skunk drawn by 8-year-old British schoolgirl Olivia Wildman.

This year's toy collection has been designed by children from across the world who were asked to let their imagination run wild and create fantastic creatures as part of the Soft Toys Drawing Competition.

From 18 October to 19 December 2015 IKEA is holding its annual Soft Toys for Education campaign, where proceeds from softtoy sales help to fund Save the Children and UNICEF's educational projects around the world.

From thousands of entries ten lucky winners were picked to be given the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of having their drawing recreated as part of limited edition range to be sold worldwide.

Grumpy Cat poses for Madame Tussauds figure makers
Madame Tussauds to make a Grumpy Cat figure, San Francisco, America - 27 Aug 2015
Madame Tussauds San Francisco is delighted to announce that irreverent Internet sensation Grumpy Cat will be the first ever cat to be immortalised in the attraction's history. In step with her digital celebrity, her figure will be an animatronic with five different movements.

"This is truly an honour?" 'said' a distinctly unimpressed Grumpy Cat. "I hate it."

Grumpy Cat shot to stardom when her photo was posted on Reddit on September 22, 2012. To dispel suspicions that the image had been Photoshopped, she posted two videos to YouTube. The videos went viral, making her the darling of meme-loving macro-makers everywhere.

Grumpy Cat will be unveiled at Madame Tussauds? San Francisco location later this year in typically aloof fashion by Grumpy Cat herself. After a short stay at Madame Tussauds San Francisco, the animatronic will tour the remaining five Madame Tussauds attractions across the US.

Polar Bear Peril: Bear Family Escape From Hungry Male
A polar bear family had to swim for their lives when the cubs caught the eye of a hungry male bear.

Tourists travelling aboard a Russian sightseeing icebreaker got a front row seat as the dramatic, and deadly, chase unfolded.

The images were captured by British tour guide and photographer Paul Goldstein at Spitsbergen in Norway.

They begin with a first sighting of the mother and two youngsters swimming in formation towards the boat.

Paul, from Wimbledon, explains: "A mother and cubs, about 18 months old, swam right under the bow. We did not know at the time that they were being pursued by an old male, a very dangerous situation for the family.

"They continued their swim right under the ship. It was then we saw a huge old battle-scarred male appear wanting to make breakfast out of the yearling cubs. When he showed its battered old head above the turquoise parapet all hell broke loose.

"Despite their flight from the male polar bear, the bear family did stop to eat another bear's kill. However dangerous, the bear is continuously thinking of winter hibernation and will rarely, if ever, ignore the chance of a feed whatever the circumstances.

"One of the young cubs reared up to get a look at the old male chasing them. They retreated many times, but not before they had filled their faces at the trough.

"It was just remarkable, the 100 passengers on board were dumbfounded as it might take years for a Natural History film team to capture this. Mum got away and we were still in shock many hours later but were happy to grin and bear it.

Liverpool hair salon Voodou team up with legendary designer Thelma Madine to make a dress completely made out of hair.
My Big Fat Gypsy Hair-Dresser: Gown Made From Human Hair
Liverpool dressmaker Thelma Madine has created a dress made entirely from human hair.

The size 6 dress, which took eight people over 300 hours to complete, uses 250 metres of hair and weighs 15 stone (95kg).

Eight designers from Thelma's dress shop Nico's Dressmakers, which featured on Channel Four's series of My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding, spent 12 days making the dress.

The dress with a price tag of more than GBP 50,000 includes 1500 crystals and 12 underskirts.

The seamstress of choice to UK travellers worked with Voodou hair salon in Liverpool to create the dress.

The brain child behind the hairy idea was Voodou stylist Ryan Edwards.

Ryan said: "It's something that we've been thinking about designing for a while as it's just so different.

"I approached Thelma and her team to see if they would be up for doing it and they loved the idea. It took a team of about eight people just over 12 days to make and as you can see, we used a lot of hair!"

The dress was revealed at the alternative Miss Liverpool pageant where it was crowned the winner of the annual event, by star of stage and screen, Fenella Fielding.

The team at Voodou hair salon are now hoping that they can get stars such as Lady Gaga to wear it in the future or for it to go on display at one of the city's renowned art galleries.

Ryan added: "This was a chance for us to show off our creativity and originality, it's a fantastic feeling to see the finished product.
"It's fair to say we'll probably not see another dress like it for a very long time."

TRAGIC MARILYN'S FINAL POSSESSIONS UP FOR SALE

A rare sale of Marilyn Monroe's personal possessions will feature a robe purported to be the last item of clothing she wore.

The assembled items include clothing from her personal and professional wardrobe and furniture from her Brentwood, California hacienda style home.

The items offer a rare glimpse into the personal life of the tragic legend who resided in the Brentwood home until her death.

Among over 150 items offered for sale is a white terry cloth robe ($8,000 - 10,000) claimed to be the last item of clothing Monroe wore before her death.

This is also an umbrella Monroe held for an iconic photograph taken by Andre de Dienes in 1949 at Tobey Beach.

Other highlights from Marilyn's Brentwood home include; an orange Pucci blouse ($7,000-9,000), Monroe's dining room table (est. $10,000/12,000), living room coffee table (est. $8,000/10,000), Mexican tile table (est. $500/1,000), set of four living room folding benches (est. $5,000/7,000), Mexican framed mirror (est. $3,000/5,000), and other fine & decorative art pieces.

After Marilyn's death in 1962, her home at 12305 Fifth Helena, Brentwood, CA was purchased via auction by Dr. Gilbert Nunez. On August 5, 1962, Betty Nunez went to the realtor's office to register to view the property. By March of 1963, the Nunez's had thought Marilyn Monroe they had ownership, but a half dozen other realtors had also sold ...

Claudia Schiffer leaving the school carrying a present., Who is this school run mum? Supermodel Claudia Schiffer looked like any other busy mother when she dropped her five-year-old son Casper off at school in North London today (30 Jan). The German beauty even seemed to have been busy in the kitchen as she arrived with a tray of iced buns. But the 37-year-old looked a bit sheepish as she left the Notting Hill school with a small present - she tried to cover her make-up free face with her hair.

Who Looks Good Naked? Bare Faced Beauties

Forget taking your clothes off, the true test of a celebrity's beauty is when the make-up comes off!

Not even the most glamorous celeb can spend their lives as though they lived on the red carpet. So when it comes to their downtime most starlets opt for a little bare faced chic. Getting back to basics, out goes the mascara and hairspray and in comes dishevelled hair and shiny faces. Despite the fact make-up hides a multitude of sins, these stripped bare babes are all embracing that au natural look.

If only Britney knew how ironic this t-shirt would be just few short years on.

David Hasselhoff lays the rumours about his health to rest.

Hmmm we're not sure how many people will be convinced by Khloe Kardashian's statement.

A provocative Tori Spelling lays down a challenge.
