Heavy snow brought Britain to a standstill today (2nd February) in the worst snowfall in 18 years. Airports were closed, buses and trains cancelled and motorists advised not to take their vehicles on to the road. Hundreds of thousands of schoolchildren stayed at home after their schools were cancelled and many commuters also had the day off after finding themselves unable to get into work.
