Global heating is already making kiln workers’ lives unbearable. And it will only get worse
Researchers mapped brick kilns across India and used climate models to forecast the levels of heat stress workers face between now and 2050.
New research by the Rights Lab at the University of Nottingham in England shows that brick kiln workers are among the most vulnerable to human-caused global heating.

Lego-like bricks which slot together could be about to make building homes child’s play.
The blocks, called Plaex, are made of recycled construction material named Plaex-crete.
It is made up of more than 90% of shredded and cleaned recycled plastic, which is put through an extruder to produce a cement-style paste to which is added colorants, UV and flame inhibitors.
Each block is said to be 35% lighter than a traditional brick its size.
They click into place without cuts or mortar.
The Canadian company behind them says a double-story build would take 11-12 days with minimal equipment compared to three to six months with traditional bricks.
They were developed with one eye in the future and the possibility of construction worker robots.
OPS: The Plaex construction blocks. They fit together withbout the need of mortar.

Harry Potter fans can now get a magical Lego set — recreating the talking Hogwarts School Sorting Hat.
The hat was used in the JK Rowling books and films about the boy wizard to select pupils for the four school houses.
Harry famously uses his powers to convince the hat he should go into Gryffindor, not Slytherin where nemesis Lord Voldemort had studied when a boy.
And the 561 piece Lego set even talks.
It has a hidden randomised sound box that utters 31 different phrases to magically assign fans who put the hat in their head to one of the four Hogwarts houses.
It’s also the first Lego Harry Potter kit to incorporate a sound brick.

Tesla chief Elon Musk has released new details of the company’s humanoid robot with stunning images of it self balancing on one leg and autonomously sorting toy bricks into trays.
The bot, called Optimus , has previously been shown by Musk doing a few menial chores in a Tesla electric car plant.
With the new capabilities, the tech billionaire was keen to show off just how lifelike his brainchild has become with the latest technological and engineering upgrades.
The first advancement is that Optimus is now capable of self calibrating its arms and legs — in other words manoeuvring the limbs as required for different tasks without human interference.
When it picks up a brick, it works out for itself the position the hand and wrist need to be in to accurately carry out the action.
This is done using only its vision and encoders that relay the position of its joints back to its AI “brain.”
Once that is done, Optimus can learn various tasks and perform them efficiently .
For the example of sorting different coloured building bricks autonomously, its neural network runs the entire operation using only the bot’s vision.
