The development of humanoid robots could one day be a knockout blow for human boxers.A company is planning to put on combat bouts involving mechanical fighters.
China-based robot maker Unitree is pledging to put on robot bouts involving its machines in May and live stream them to audiences.
To advertise the fights, it has shown two bots squaring up to each other in the ring, throwing punches and kicks.
And another match-up sees one of robots facing a human opponent.
Unitree set up the fights to demonstrate the abilities of its previously announced G1 robot.
In both bouts the robot is able to throw accurate punches and follow its opponent around the ring.If it gets knocked down, it is able to spring back up onto its feet and carry on fighting.
The G1 is 180 cm tall , weighs 35kg and has a running speed of two meters per second.
It is designed to be a robot helper, assembly line operative or research tool.
It has a head without any human features but is packed with the camera and radar sensors usually found in autonomous vehicles.

Here’s a first look at the next generation fighter being planned by the US Air Force — and it will be equipped with AI.
The F-47, to be built by Boeing, is to be built under a scheme called the Next Generation Air Dominance.
It is expected to enter service by the end of the decade to replace the F-22 Raptor.
The fighter was given the go ahead by President Donald Trump after fears iyt may fall victim to federal spending cuts.
The US Air Force says new digital techniques and government-owned architecture have streamlined and accelerated development.
The five -year $19.6-billion USD / €18 billion euros contract for the building and testing of production model prototypes has been awarded to Boeing instead of rival Lockheed Martin, the builder of the F-22 Raptor.
The exact number of F-47s that will be ordered is not known, but the estimated cost per aircraft is expected to start out at $300 million USD.
