The picture shows Predawn Thunderstorm over El Paso, Texas by Lori Grace Bailey, 48, from Arizona. It was taken in Texas. They said: "I live in Arizona but was visiting family members in El Paso, Texas that week. Very early on the morning of November 6th I woke up and felt an urge to check my radar app on my phone. I discovered a discrete thunderstorm cell was moving north from Mexico towards the U.S. border near downtown El Paso. I hurriedly gathered my camera gear and drove to an overlook that gave me a perfect vista of the storm and of the downtown El Paso skyline. It's always been a "dream shot" of mine to capture lightning over this desert city landscape."The 26 finalists for this year's Weather Photographer of the Year have been announced and the public are being invited to vote for their favourite. The Royal Meteorological Society (RMetS), which celebrates its 170th birthday this year, in association with AccuWeather, has put the shortlisted pictures on their website and people can visit photocrowd.com/wpotyvote to vote until September 25.The popular competition, which is now in its fifth year, has attracted entries from around the world.

The picture shows Sa Foradada Storm by Marc Marco Ripoll, 39, from Mallorca, Spain. The picture was taken at the Viewpoint Sa Foradada between the towns Valldemossa and Dei in Mallorca. He said: ÒI tried many times to catch a good lightning strike behind this rock called Sa Foradada, but every time I tried, the conditions were not so good. I didn't have the moon on the sky to illuminate the scene, or the lightning was too far away. This night I knew that a big storm was approaching Mallorca and all the conditions were perfect. I don't remember if the moon was full, but I remember that it was very big. This was perfect, because the moon was going to illuminate all the land and the sea and gives more colour to the scene. I chose my composition, and I shot many pictures until the storm fell on me. This is one of the pictures I took that night in Sa Foradada. To see the storm and the lightning that night was something amazing.ÓThe 26 finalists for this yearÕs Weather Photographer of the Year have been announced and the public are being invited to vote for their favourite. The picture shows El ChaltZn taken by Francisco Javier Negroni Rodriguez, aged 45, in Argentina. He said: 'An hour before taking this photograph I was walking along the trails that surround the beautiful rock formation known as El ChaltZn in Argentina, the day was very cloudy, apparently luck was not with me on this adventure. The climate in Patagonia is somewhat unpredictable, it changes every moment and the wind is so strong that it quickly moves the clouds. Only at times could the figure of the massif be distinguished. My hope was focused on getting to a place from where I could wait very patiently for the weather to help me and give me a window of good weather at sunset to be able to take some photos, but nature surprised me. It was incredible! Only for a moment the clouds allowed me to see El ChaltZn and to my surprise there was a spectacular and brilliant lenticular cloud with a beautiful and perfect figure that I had never seen. The picture shows Mammatus Outbreak by Boris Jordan, aged 37, from Germany. It was taken in Leipzig. He said: 'This was by far the most spectacular mammatus display I've ever seen in my entire life. After a line of thunderstorms passed by and the sun disappeared behind the horizon, low-hanging mammatus clouds began to shine red and blue. At this moment I was just speechless, as the sky really looked like not from this planet. And as a nice bonus, a distant lightning made the composition perfect. Mammatus mostly appear in association with strong thunderstorms, if the sinking air, which contains high amount of liquid water or ice, is cooler than the surrounding air. PEOPLE - Kim Wild zeigt ihr Nackt-Selbstportrait in London
Mandatory Credit: Photo by Guy Bell/REX Shutterstock (5356789b)
Kim Wilde unveils a nude self-portrait created in 1990It has now been framed by John Jones and launches an online auction for charity via www.wildecancerfoundation.com. The benefitting charity is the 'Hertfordshire Breast Unit Appeal', where her sister in law Mandy Smith was treated for Breast Cancer. The Breast Unit in WGC came about because of a fund raising mission by Vicki Adkins MBE. Vicki's own experience with breast cancer led her to realise that a dedicated place for people to deal with such a traumatic event in their lives was badly needed within the QE2 hospital in W.G.C Hertfordshire. Vicki contacted Kim in the early fund raising days and she was very happy to help out at several events. Eventually when the unit was built Vicki asked Kim to design a garden attached to the unit - a private, peaceful space for anyone affected by breast cancer to go and take time out away from other patients and staff.
Kim commented on the self portrait - 'I called this 'Sunburn' and was inspired to do it after reading an amazing book about Frida Kahlo by Hayden Herrera. I'd forgotten I had it until I cleared out a cluttered room, and there it was inside my old art portfolio from college. When I saw it I thought that it would be perfect to raise money for my chosen charity. It has since been generously framed by John Jones (London) who, frankly, are much more used to framing priceless works of art!'

A photographer has released a stunning series of photos that show the raw beauty of the Scottish Highlands.
Scotland-based photographer Camillo Berenos has spent the past few years travelling though the highlands, capturing breath-taking pictures along the way.
Camillo said: "Unlike many who undertake such projects, I haven't focused on a single defined geographical area, though the majority of my photographic forays have taken me to the Western and North-Western Highlands.
"From the vast but also familiar landscapes of Rannoch Moor and Glen Coe, to the relentlessly steep slopes of the hills in Kintail and the rugged and shapely mountain massifs of Torridon and Wester Ross, I have spent many hours in the hills, with specific destinations often primarily being determined by where the weather forecast looked most favourable."

Jazzy the dog catching a treat
Catch: Hilarious Photos Show Dogs Catching Treats
These hilarious photos show doggies doing what they do best - playing catch.
Photographer Aki Yamaguchi wanted to capture the funny poses her two dogs made when trying to snag a treat.
Retired search and rescue dogs Cooper, a 10-year-old Labrador, and Border Collie Jazzy, 10, were snapped trying to catch items ranging from pieces from cucumber to bubbles.
The dogs are captured frozen in expectation as they try and catch the treat; eyes wide and mouth wide open. One hilarious image sees Jazzy waiting to catch a treat with an improbably long tongue hanging out.
Texas-based Aki, a dog trainer and artist, explains: "I'm always looking for new ideas and ways to capture creative images. When my dogs catch anything, they make the most intense and focused faces.
"I started taking pictures of my Border Collie while she caught pieces of kibbles. I could not stop laughing when I saw a series of her most expressive faces.
"I posted my first catchakibbleface on Instagram back in April, followed by other versions of catchseries; bubbles, balls, treats, fruits, and the most recent veggie version.
Aki has some advice for those wanting to shoot similar images: "You have to take the pictures in a well-lit area or outside otherwise pictures will turn out blurry because of the movement. Play around with the timing. If you press the shutter early, you'll get more intense pictures, if you press it right when they catch the item, you'll get good action shot. If you press it a little late, you sometimes get funny outtakes like your dog missing the treat and looking disappointed. Make sure you moderate the amount of food you use. I practiced the timing with small kibbles first."

Many people dream of going on safari in Africa and seeing the wild animals close up, but few get as close as journalist Todd Pitock.
While in Botswana's Kalahari Desert an opportunistic meerkat checked out the surrounding area by using Mr Pitock as a human look-out post.
Mr Pitock was visiting the Meerkat Project in the Makgadikgadi National Park last summer and found the meerkats to be unfazed by humans.
So much so the alpha male climbed on to his head, thinking he was part of the landscape, and used him as a good viewpoint to gauge threats.
Mr Pitock, who lives in Philadelphia said: "The meerkats are wild but habituated, meaning that they're used to people, just as they'll hang out with yellow mongooses or ground squirrels, they're not overly disturbed by people.
"If you sit for a little while, eventually one, such as the alpha male who climbed on me, will mount you for a better vantage point to see potential threats, such as the marshall eagle that was cruising the skies in the distance during my visit."
Mr Pitock said he could feel the meerkat's little pads and the light touch of his claws as it ambled over and stepped on the top of his head.
He also mentioned that the meerkat did not urinate on him.

You Floated My Battleship! The Superships That Carry Superloads
When the weighty problem of transporting superloads around the world arises, a bulky breed of superships are ready to take up the challenge.
But rather than standard cargo containers, these vessels are capable of floating unimaginable loads including full oil rigs, multiple nuclear-powered submarines and, in one epic voyage, 18 barges from China to the Netherlands.
Currently, the Australian Navy are employing the services of Netherlands-based shipping company Dockwise's MV Blue Marlin, the largest cargo transport ship in the world.
The ship is transporting the first of two aircraft carrier hulls from Spain to Melbourne.
The Australian Landing Helicopter Dock (ALHD) Canberra is the first to commence the 12,000 nautical mile voyage around the Cape of Good Hope, estimated to be completed in 45 days after setting off on 20 August from Punta Langosteira, a new large port just south of La Coruna, northern Spain.
Spanish company Navantia has completed construction of the ships from the keel to the flight deck, and now the hulls are being transported for completion by BAE Systems Australia. The second hull, the ALHD Adelaide, will be transported in early 2014.
Blue Marlin is more than up to the task, being 712ft in length, larger than two football pitches, 138ft deep and able to carry 75,000 tonnes. That said, the ALHD Canberra is so large it overhangs the Blue Marlin deck by 180ft.
Blue Marlin's load capability also meant it was the ship of choice for the U.S. Navy when they had to transport the stricken destroyer USS Cole back to the United States after the warship was damaged by an Al-Qaeda suicide bomber attack while anchored in the port of Aden, Yemen.
The Blue Marlin is manned by a 24 crew and is powered by 17,000 horsep...

Flights of Fancy: Paul Goldstein's 'In The Air' Wildlife Photography
For photographers, capturing animals in the wild is an art that can take years to master.
But wildlife photographer Paul Goldstein has taken his work to new heights by shooting animals frozen in the air as they leap.
His work sees stunning images showing jumping animals ranging from wildebeest to polar bears.
They include a dramatic flying fight between a baboon and a leopard and the cute, bouncy interaction between a pair of serval kittens.
Paul explains: "Mammals and indeed penguins cannot fly, it would be a physiological miracle if it occurred, but it is wonderful to see them try. It also is rare, which is why I like photographing it as it is a huge challenge. If the shot is successful it always elicits a good response.
"For the money shot there must be no part of the animal attached to a tree/branch/ice or rock. It does not matter if it is an 'air's breath' away, but just nothing touching.
"Air looms high on my agenda, I am obsessed by it, it is exciting photography and frequently original."
Describing the moment the baboon ambushed the leopard, Paul says: "Prime Mates? I don't think so, these are mortal enemies and a whole troop of baboons had 'treed' this young male leopard in the Masai Mara.
"Eventually they left, except one male that waited for the predators descent and jumped out at him. It gave the leopard a good dry slap then the leopard legged it and vaporised in seconds as is their wont.
"Whilst leopards will sometimes kill single baboons, they will avoid whole troops assiduously as they can turn on them. One of my favourite ever photos."
Regarding the polar bear cubs in Spitsbergen, Paul says: "What a morning. Seven polar bears in four hours many nautical miles from land in Spitsbergen. These two cub...
