Debenhams Oxford Street today. Last ditch attempts to save the chain collapsed on Tuesday morning. All of Debenhams' 124 UK stores are set to close following its collapse. 12,000 employees likely stand to to lose their jobs when the shops cease trading, unless administrators strike an agreement for all of parts of the business.

Mufasa the mountain lion has spent the last 20 years chained in the back of a pick up truck of a travelling circus.

Moving between remote Peruvian villages, Mufasa went undetected despite the country's ban on wild animals in circuses. However the mountain lion, believed to be the last wild animal in a South American circus, was rescued in a dramatic raid earlier this year.

FATHER CHAINS SON TO POLE WHILE AT WORK

For any working parent arranging childcare can be something of a nightmare.

But one Chinese man has come up with a shocking solution - to chain his 2-year-old son to a pole while off a work.

Concerned passers-by spotted the youngster chained with a padlock round his ankle to a lamp post outside Huaguan Shopping Mall in Beijing.

Meanwhile, his father Chen Chuanliu, a pedicab driver, was several metres away touting for passengers.

Chen's wife was also nearby, collecting rubbish on the roadside.

Chen said he had been forced to chain his son up in a bid to prevent him from being stolen.

Only a few weeks ago, he claims, his 4-year-old daughter went missing, believed to have been abducted.

With no one else available to look after his son, and being unable to afford childcare, Chen said "to chain him [his son] is better than losing him."

According to one resident in the neighbourhood, Chen first started to chain his son to the pole several days ago.

Then when he has finished work for the day he unlocks him and takes him home.

THE CAR WASH CRAZY HOT WAX HOUDINI

A Canadian escape artist has managed to make a clean getaway from his latest stunt.

Dean Gunnarson was sprayed from head to toe with searing hot wax, water and soap as he attempted to escape after being chained to the roof of a vehicle going through a car wash.

In a tribute to his hero, American escape artist Harry Houdini, who died on Halloween in 1926, Gunnarson was chained and handcuffed to the top of the vehicle as it was driven through the car wash.

Gunnarson's goal was to wriggle free before the SUV reached the massive blow dryers at the end of the cycle.

Commenting on the stunt he said: "This may not be as death-defying as some of my other escapes, like being locked in shark cages underwater, but this still has elements of risks for me".

As the vehicle started its journey through the carwash, two huge rotating brushes bore down on his body.

Soap then blasted away at his eyes and water spewed from both the sides of the wash, making unpicking the locks tricky work.

He finally managed to free himself as hot wax sprayed down upon him; taking the final chain from around his neck and kneeling up to give a victory cheer.

Gunnarson has been an escape artist for 20 years and has been featured on television specials in the United States, Japan and other countries.

One of his most notorious stunts saw him tied up in chains and cuffs, dangling 200 metres over a Nevada gorge. Another saw him chained across a busy roller-coaster track in China, working to get free before being run over.
