Protesters March In NYC In Support Of Mahmoud Khalil
A few dozen pro-Palestinian protesters face off peacefully with a few dozen pro-Israel protesters, some wearing red MAGA hats, in Columbus Circle beside Trump International Hotel & Tower in New York City, on March 15, 2025. The exchange takes place shortly after hundreds of pro-Palestine protesters and a few dozen pro-Israel counter-protesters march from Times Square to Trump International Hotel to demand the release of Mahmoud Khalil from ICE detention in Louisiana. Khalil is a recent graduate of Columbia University and a green card holder who is arrested by ICE at his home on March 8, 2025. The Trump Administration cites vague accusations of pro-Palestinian advocacy at Columbia University. Khalil is of Palestinian descent and is a lead organizer of pro-Palestinian protests on campus. A judge temporarily blocks his removal from the U.S., but another Columbia student is since detained. (Photo by Melissa Bender/NurPhoto)

Following a dramatic rescue and nearly two years of rehabilitation these bottleneck dolphins have been declared ready for release.

Tom and Misha were rescued by international wildlife charity, Born Free after spending six years in a small, filthy pool in Hisaronu, Turkey.

The dolphins are now fit and healthy and hunting their own food.

"When the dolphin's sea pen is finally unzipped they'll be free to leave. I hope they will swim off and don't look back."

Having worked with marine mammals for over four decades, including the rehabilitation of Keiko, the orca star of the film 'Free Willy', Jeff believes that Tom and Misha's journey to freedom could provide a replicable pathway for more dolphins in the future.

In Turkey to help with final preparations for the release, Programme Director for the Born Free Foundation said: "This has been a long journey for all involved. Waving Tom and Misha off will be a high point in my 20 years working for animals."

When asked for the official date of the dolphins release Born Free's spokesperson, Kate Chapman said: "I'm afraid we don't have a definitive date for the release of the dolphi...
