Mini Pigs With A Mighty Appeal
This little piggy rode a skateboard, this little piggy sat in a hat and these little piggies are the smallest mini pigs around.

Pennywall Farm in Buckfastleigh is celebrating the pitter patter of some very tiny trotters.

For the latest litter of miniature pigs to be born there are the smallest that owner Chris Murray has ever seen.

Even amongst a breed famed for their tiny stature, the four newcomers are squeally tiny.

The foursome can all fit comfortably on a skateboard or snuggled together in a hat.

They are so slight that even a bag of sugar outweighs not only one but two of them together.

Micro or miniature pigs grow to just 14 inches long.

They have sparked a popular pet craze in recent years with a host of celebrity owners including David and Victoria Beckham and Paris Hilton.

Unsurprisingly given their name, mini pigs are much smaller than a standard farm pig and weigh just 9oz when they are born.

At two years old they are fully grown and weigh in around 40-65 pounds and are around knee height at 12-16 inches tall.

The pigs, which cost up to GBP 700 each, can live for up to 18 years, but make popular pets as they are low maintenance, quiet and surprisingly clean.

And while they may be mini porkers there's no denying that they're mighty cute.

Seven, three-day-old ducklings lined up on a log
Three-day-old-ducklings at Pennywell Farm, Devon, Britain - 25 Apr 2011
When it comes to family photos there's always one who has to misbehave. They may only be three days old but it's already clear who out of this brood of seven ducklings is going to cause the most trouble. When the fluffy youngsters were all lined up for a family portrait at Pennywell Farm in Devon one of them just simply refused to co-operate. While his cute siblings happily faced the camera the rebellious youngster turned his back. To make matters worse he then managed to fall from his perch, almost causing the whole brood to take a tumble. According to farmer Chris Murray, 60, this was the ducklings' first outing after being hatched. He comments: "It was so funny as they were all facing the same way staring at the camera out of curiosity, apart from one who sat with his back to it, before deciding to stand up and make all the others tumble off like dominos".

    PIG IN BOOTS

Say hello to pig in boots.

With the weather taking a wet and windy turn, the only thing Clive the teacup piglet needs to complete his wet weather gear was his very own sow-wester.

The mini porker was forced to don the bright red Wellington boots after rain coated the yard at Pennywell Farm in Devon.

The move meant that he remained a pristine piggy and avoided muddy trotters - something he no doubt appreciated as his species are known for being scrupulously clean.

Micro pigs, which grow to just 14 inches long, are the latest pet craze with a host of celebrity owners including David and Victoria Beckham and Paris Hilton.

Miniature Micro Piglets At Pennywell Farm
MINIATURE MICRO PIGLETS AT PENNYWELL FARM

It's spring again - and that means that acclaimed wildlife photographer Richard Austin is out and about again taking pictures of nature's various little bundles of joy.

In this case it is the adorable new litter of micro pigs - or teacup pigs - born at the famous Pennywell Farm in Devon.

These five petite porkers are the 38th generation of the must-have pets - the world's second smallest breed - and it seems their photogenic nature has been well bred as they pose for their first photoshoot.

So far breeder Chris Murray has sold micro pigs to celebrities such as the Jonathan Ross, Claudia Schiffer and Charlotte Church.

The pigs grow to around knee-height when full grown and are very well-tempered, making them perfect pets - Mr Murray has even bred them with a natural smile on their snouts.

MINIATURE PIGS SET FOR WORLD DOMINATION

This little piggy went to market, this little piggy stayed at home Ö and these little piggies decided to hog the limelight.

Though they may only be tiny, the smallest pig breed in the world is actually growing - in numbers that is.

The tiny swine are only bred at Pennywell Farm in Buckfastleigh, Devon, and are a variant of the rare kune kune breed, which is found in New Zealand.

And, after a ten year long breeding programme to perfect the pint-sized porker, farmer Chris Murray is starting to reap the benefits.

Ten more perfect piglets, the first of the year, have just been born - swelling the numbers of the rare breed further.

When the pocket porkers are first born they are just five inches long and three of the animals can fit into the palm of one hand.

When fully grown they are no bigger than a cocker spaniel and weigh up to 80kg.

According to breeder Chris, who believes the animals are too small to be economically used for meat, the half-pint-sized piglets make ideal pets. They are, he says, naturally clean, very clever, and easy to keep.

However, despite the animals' popularity, Chris is careful who he sells them to; he limits sales to between 30 and 50 a year, and only sells them as pairs so they don't get lonely.

And the pocket pets are even more difficult to get hold of now.

After the animals found world-wide fame last year Pennywell was bombarded with hundreds of thousands of letters and emails from prospective owners.

WORLD'S SMALLEST PIGS SET FOR WORLD DOMINATION

This little piggy went to market, this little piggy stayed at home ÷ and these little piggies decided to hog the limelight.

Meet the latest litter of miniature pigs to be born at Pennywell Farm in Buckfastleigh, Devon. And though they are only a week old these pocket-sized porkers are already destined to be stars.

The tiny swine are the smallest pigs in the world and are only bred at Pennywell Farm.

The pigs are so small that when they are first born three of the animals can fit into the palm of one hand; they eventually weigh up to 80kg.

The tiny animals are now a world-wide sensation after becoming stars in America and Russia and appearing on programmes such as Good Morning America, CNN News and Russian State Television.

Celebrities are also lining up to own one of the sweet swine; TV presenter Jonathan Ross has already brought two of the piglets at a cost of £250 each.

According to Chris, 57, he has received over 26,000 visits to his website and over 5,000 emails from Americans wanting to buy a piglet.

According to Chris the animals are too small to be economically used for meat but make ideal pets. They are, he says, naturally clean, very clever, and easy to keep.

KEEPING WARM DOWN ON THE FARM

The mild weather at the beginning of the year fooled many an animal, causing spring babies to start appearing as early as February.

Unfortunately, the mild weather didn't last and Easter weekend saw an arctic blast of weather that left much of the UK covered in snow, and meant a cold start to April..

However, these recently born additions to Pennywell Farm in Buckfastleigh, Devon, have found a novel way to keep warm.

Cuddling together into one big huddle in the farmyard the new additions keep each other warm, and it doesn't even matter what species you are.

We promise, we aren't telling porkies.

    SPRING HAS SPRUNG

It would seem that spring has sprung earlier than usual this year, with both flowers and animals having been fooled by the mild weather.

It is little wonder then that a host of March babies, from chicks to lambs, are all being born across the country.

One farm that has received its fair share of fluffy new arrivals is Pennywell Farm in Buckfastleigh; here baby ducklings and 'not quite spring' lambs have been making the most of the unseasonal weather.
