Hoa Hakananai'a sculpture at the British Museum
Easter Island requests return of statue, London, UK - 21 Nov 2018
The governor of Easter Island has asked the British Museum to return its famous basalt statue known as Hoa Hakananai'a dating back to about AD 1000-1200 to Rapa Nui/Eastern Island in the South Pacific. The statue represents the ancestrl figure, the centre of abirdman cult, and was donated to Queen Victoria in 1869
