Reverend Ray Biddiss Who Has Become the First Man to Reach 100mph in a Hearse, York, Britain - 10 May 2011

Reverend Ray Biddiss breaks the record in His 100mph Hearse
Reverend Ray Biddiss Who Has Become the First Man to Reach 100mph in a Hearse
Revving reverend Ray Biddiss has sped his way into the record books after becoming the first man to hit 100mph in a HEARSE.
The biking Baptist minister set a new Guinness World Record of 114mph on his customised 2.3 litre Triumph III, dragging a glass coffin carrier behind him.
He set the new record - 24 mph faster than the previous top speed - at the 3,000m runway at Elvington Airfield, York. Roy, 57, said: "I wanted to do something different and this was such a buzz - I have never experienced anything like it.
"I would like to have another go and get faster but I don't think I would get away with it with my wife."
Racing Roy, from Bradford, Yorks, has been a biker for more than 40 years and turned to God in 1996.
After a close shave while out on the road he decided to build a customised hearse to ferry people to their funerals.
He added: "I nearly got wiped out on a ride and realised if I had done I would have to be carried to my funeral in a car, and I didn't want that.
"I know some people get taken in a motorbike sidecar but a true biker wouldn't be seen dead in one of those, so I came up with the idea of an all-in-one hearse."
Roy spent GBP 20,000 buying and converting the Triumph III - the biggest production bike on the market - into the Rocket Hearse.
Now he uses the three-cylinder hybrid vehicle, which he designed himself, to take coffins to personalised funerals.
His services often feature rock music, videos and webcam link-ups.
Hearsy Rider Roy added: "The Rocket is one of a kind.
"So many bikers agree that a motorcycle hearse is the only way to travel and a few non-bikers have shown an interest too.
"This is for people who want to go ...

Photographer Brian Bielmann captures the moment surfers wipe out, America - 13 Jan 2011
Mandatory Credit: Photo by Brian Bielmann/Solent News / Rex Features ( 1271669e )
Wipeout: From Rad To Bad
These dramatic photographs capture the moment the world's best surfers are caught out by some of the world's biggest waves.
The extraordinary images reveal the sport's most dangerous moments - when surfers push the limit too far and are thrown from 30 foot high breakers.
Photographer Brian Bielmann travels to the world's most exotic beaches snapping the moments when surfers crash - known as wiping out.
The 53-year-old New Yorker, who settled in Hawaii, has spent more than 30 years tackling the world's roughest surf, camera in hand.
Brian used to surf himself but had to give up the sport as a 21-year-old following a near death experience when he was hurled against a reef after a 'crash'.
Since then he has visited far flung corners of the earth to photograph the sport's elite, searching for the perfect wave and the perfect wipeout.
He said: "It's funny; I get really excited when I shoot a really good wipeout.
"But then afterwards there is a real moment of guilt when I realise I was more concerned about getting a great image.
"Usually, the guys are ok and I heave a huge sigh of relief. Afterwards, they love to see the shots of themselves wiping out, the bigger the better."
Brian's most dramatic wipeout shot was taken at the Eddie Aikau Quiksilver contest in Hawaii.
It shows his friend 'Flea' taking a massive tumble while trying to ride a huge wave.
He said: "Flea was really going for it, as there was fifty thousand dollars prize money on offer!
"It was the worst wipeout I had seen in 30 years".
Brian uses specialist underwater housing for his cameras when bobbing about in the strong currents.
"Some of my shots are taken while I'm trying to survive these huge waves myself," he said.
"You have to keep your wits about you at a...

Motorised table breaks world's fastest furniture record, Santa Pod Raceway, Northamptonshire, Britain - 05 Sep 2010

Fast Food... Motorised Table Breaks Fastest Furniture World Record
A wacky car fan has proved he has the fastest food by breaking a world speed record - with a motorised table.
Perry Watkins had the previous record for fastest furniture for lunch by topping out his table at 113mph. It beat a motorised sofa which managed 92mph.
The hobby mechanic whipped up a storm at Northamptonshire's Santa Pod Raceway on Sunday (5 Sep).
He was required to take two runs in an officially-timed flying quarter mile to dish up his time.
And Buckinghamshire-based Perry made sure his speedy spread - which he named Fast Food - came with all the trimmings.
It featured a delicious-looking dinner for six - complete with succulent roast chicken as table centrepiece, under which the driver's head pokes out.
Other ingenious flourishes saw exhaust fumes exiting two silver teapots, rolled-up napkin brake lights and, most impressively, flame-spewing teapots.
There were also six wrought-iron chairs, lace-effect plastic tablecloth, and, being a road-legal vehicle, the tax disc was neatly displayed on a champagne ice bucket.
He also included a Stig-like 'diner' kitted out in driving overalls and white helmet - although any resemblance to a mysterious perhaps-soon-to-be ex-BBC driver are coincidental.
The design was based on a classic Reliant Scimitar sports car chassis, fitted with a fuel-injected 4 litre Land Rover Discovery engine.
It also received a full-calorie kick thanks to a NITROUS OXIDE injection - the fuel used by Fast and Furious street racers - which boosts power from 150hp 180hp.
Perry, a sales director at high street shoe repairer Timpson, said: "I had to drive the table at speed over two runs for the official timers.
"I had reached 103mph in earlier test runs so was overjoyed that my table managed an ...

14-year-old breaks archery world record by firing arrow the length of five football pitches, Corby, Northamptonshire, Britain - 20 Aug 2010

The Teenage Archer Who Could Take On Robin Hood
A schoolboy who dreamed of being Robin Hood has smashed a world long distance adult record in Flight Archery after firing an arrow the length of five football pitches.
Zak Crawford, who is just 14, shot an arrow nearly 500 metres - an incredible 150 metres further than the previous record.
The teenager was competing in the senior under 35lb class using a recurve bow at the Northern Counties Flight Championships at the time.
He managed to smash the world record by firing an arrow 484.29 metres - beating the previous record of 339.06 metres.
He also broke world records in the junior recurve and junior compound categories at the competition at RAF Church Fenton in Yorkshire.
Zak, who started the sport when he was just six, said he was "over the moon" at winning the hat trick of world records.
"I have been practising really hard but I certainly didn't expect to come away from the competition with three world records, I'm over the moon," he said.
"I managed to get the technique right on the day and I couldn't believe it when the arrows went so far."
Zak, who enjoyed watching Robin Hood films as a child, took up archery at the age of six after trying it at a fair.
He became the youngest member of his local club and got into the county team at the age of seven and the East Midlands team two years later when he was just nine.
He initially started with target shooting but was later introduced to Flight Archery, which is based on the distance an arrow travels.
"When I first began I was the youngest in my club and I found it very difficult as I was quite small and the bow was heavy," said Zak, from Corby, Northants.
"But I really enjoyed archery and began training a lot so I soon got used to it."
Zak now trains at Welland Valley...

'The friendliest whales in the world', Baja California, Mexico - Aug 2010
Mandatory Credit: Photo by Mark Carwardine/Solent News / Rex Features ( 1215810c )
The Friendliest Whales In The World
Massive whales once known as 'devil fish' for the way they attacked whalers have become so friendly they now rest their chins on boats - and demand to be tickled.
The 45-feet-long adult grey whales encourage their young calves to approach boats and have their backs and tongues scratched in their breeding lagoons.
They have been described by experts as the 'frendliest whales in the world'.
If their petting demands go unnoticed they swim to tourists on others boats in the hope of getting more attention.
The playful whales even swim under boats and lift them out of the water, both thrilling and scaring the tourists at the same time.
Local fishermen who lead the boat tours in San Ignacio, Mexico, have become so used to living with the whales they now refer to them as 'friendlies'.
Zoologist and television presenter Mark Carwardine, 51, photographed the whales while on a trip to the Central American country.
He has visited for the last 20 years.
Mark said: "Seventy years ago these whales were being viciously hunted and they fought back aggressively.
"They would smash boats with their tails and leap on them, so they became known locally as devil fish.
"Since the late 1930s, however, the grey whale has been protected and they have gone from being in danger of extinction, with 100 or 200 left, to almost 26,000.
"They know the local fishermen are no longer a threat and have become the friendliest whales in the world.
"They come up to these small fibreglass boats, which are a few metres long, and place their chins on the side to be scratched and tickled.
"They also encourage their calves to do the same. It is very much like a dog sitting at your feet near the fire."
He added: "I would never normally agree with touching wild...

Photographer captures images of waves breaking underwater, Australia - Jun 2010

Surf's Up For Underwater Snapper
A photographer spent months being battered by the sea as he captured the moments waves broke underwater.
Alex Tipple took the stunning shots of swimmers and surfers emerging underwater engulfed in clouds of whitewater while being frequently rocked by the waves himself.
The 29 year old captures the split second moments off the Australian coast and regularly gets beaten in the head by his 5kg, specially adapted camera for his troubles.
Alex, from Sydney, Australia, came up with the idea of photographing waves underwater after becoming frustrated with 'normal' surf photography, and wanted to capture the moments from a different perspective.
He said: "During a flat spell in Sydney I shot a few small waves with people swimming off to the side.
"The results were pretty graphic and led to people swimming becoming the focus of the series, which was against my initial intention but looked great.
"Most of the people I photograph are just enjoying themselves at the beach and I ask them if they'd mind being in a picture.
"I tell them what I'm doing and show them a few photos and mostly they're amazed.
"Most of the time I come off worse than the people I'm shooting, generally I'm looking sidewards to track where they are in relation to where the wave is, and tend to pay more attention to them than the wave; which can rock me pretty hard.
"I'm pretty comfortable underwater from years of surfing, and can ride out the waves breaking overhead.
"Most of the credit has to be paid to the camera though, I'd be lying if I didn't say that most of the time I hold the shutter down and point in the general direction of the people.
"The housing is about the size of a shoebox, and weighs about 5 kilograms, heavy enough to hurt when it hits me in the head.
"I gu...

Keith Malcolm Breaks the World Record for Running Whilst on Fire, Widley, Hants, Britain - 05 Jul 2009
MAN ON FIRE
An NHS nurse today broke a world record by setting himself on fire and running for nearly 100 yards engulfed in a ball of flames.
Keith Malcolm, 39, was doused in petrol before staggering 259ft ablaze to beat the previous fire-run record of 227ft.
To claim the record the amateur stuntman wore eight layers of protective clothing, including four layers of fireproof undergarments, a Formula One fireproof jacket and three overalls.
He also donned three fire hoods and a helmet and coated himself in special protective 'stunt gel' so he would not be harmed by the flames which are believed to have reached 1000 degrees celsius.
Mr Malcolm, of Widley, near Portsmouth, Hants, set the new record at the Alton & North East Hampshire Agricultural Show on Sunday.
He had a team of experts from Hampshire Fire and Rescue on hand for the event which was aimed at raising money for Cancer Research.
Afterwards Mr Malcolm said: "It was absolutely awesome.
"I managed it in 17 seconds and was running flat-out. I really did not want to hang around.
"There wasn't much left of the jacket at the end.
"To be honest, the heat I felt was what you would expect if you were wearing all those clothes and a helmet in hot weather and trying to run.
"But given the air temperature I would have thought the fire was around 1000 degrees centigrade.
"It's a crazy stunt but I am certainly not mad. I have respect for the fire and the stunt and my team and the emergency services were fantastic.
"At the end of the run they extinguished me before giving me a medical and I was fine."
Mr Malcolm's wife Anna-Marie Malcolm, a 33 year old nurse, said: "It was certainly nerve wracking for me.

"I ...
