ZSL annual health check for Bhanu at London Zoo, London, UK.
Bhanu, a 14-year-old Asiatic lion from London Zoo gets his teeth checked by ZSL vet Taina Strike, as part of his annual health check.
While anaesthetised, the 28-stone big cat had a check up on his ears - as Bhanu's small ear canals make him prone to ear infections, something the conservation Zoo's vets can easily treat during a check up. London Zoo, London, UK. 14/1/25

14-year-old hides pregnancy from parents until two days before birth, Romford, Essex, Britain - Jul 2010

My 14-Year-Old Hid Her Pregnancy
Leanne was 14 when she fell pregnant. She spent the next nine months doing everything possible to hide her growing secret from her parents.
She finally only came clean and informed them she was having a baby just two days before her due date.
Today, though she wouldn't recommend enduring a pregnancy without telling family and friends, Leanne says she's glad she kept her baby a secret or he might not be here.
Her mum Hazel, 56, explains how she didn't realise her daughter was pregnant for nine months.
As I snuck a look at my 14-year-old daughter Leanne watching TV in those awful tracksuit bottoms and baggy jumper, I couldn't help but wonder...was she trying to hide something?
Don't be silly, I told myself. That's just what teenagers wear these days.
It wasn't like Leanne had boys calling at all hours. In fact she'd only ever had one boyfriend - Matt.
He was a nice quiet lad, training to be an electrician. But it was hardly 'love's young dream' - they only saw each other now and then.
Of course, I'd given her 'the chat' and told her if she was having sex to make sure she was being careful.
'Mum!' she said, her face colouring. And that was that - end of conversation.
But baggy clothes or not she was definitely putting on weight.
However, Leanne was always going on about how fat she was, even back when she was a size 10, and I didn't want to upset her. So I kept quiet.
After all, she was still going to college every day, studying for her GCSEs. What did I really have to nag her about?
But a few months on even the baggy clothes were getting tighter. I waited until we were driving home from the supermarket and took a deep breath
"You're not pregnant are you, love?" I asked.
"'Don't be stupid, Mum!" she snapped. "As if!"
Relief washed over me an...

14-year-old breaks archery world record by firing arrow the length of five football pitches, Corby, Northamptonshire, Britain - 20 Aug 2010

The Teenage Archer Who Could Take On Robin Hood
A schoolboy who dreamed of being Robin Hood has smashed a world long distance adult record in Flight Archery after firing an arrow the length of five football pitches.
Zak Crawford, who is just 14, shot an arrow nearly 500 metres - an incredible 150 metres further than the previous record.
The teenager was competing in the senior under 35lb class using a recurve bow at the Northern Counties Flight Championships at the time.
He managed to smash the world record by firing an arrow 484.29 metres - beating the previous record of 339.06 metres.
He also broke world records in the junior recurve and junior compound categories at the competition at RAF Church Fenton in Yorkshire.
Zak, who started the sport when he was just six, said he was "over the moon" at winning the hat trick of world records.
"I have been practising really hard but I certainly didn't expect to come away from the competition with three world records, I'm over the moon," he said.
"I managed to get the technique right on the day and I couldn't believe it when the arrows went so far."
Zak, who enjoyed watching Robin Hood films as a child, took up archery at the age of six after trying it at a fair.
He became the youngest member of his local club and got into the county team at the age of seven and the East Midlands team two years later when he was just nine.
He initially started with target shooting but was later introduced to Flight Archery, which is based on the distance an arrow travels.
"When I first began I was the youngest in my club and I found it very difficult as I was quite small and the bow was heavy," said Zak, from Corby, Northants.
"But I really enjoyed archery and began training a lot so I soon got used to it."
Zak now trains at Welland Valley...

In what is believed to be the first 'Obama' haircut, teenager Kwame Boyce-Deacon has had US President-elect Barack Obama's face shaved into the back of his head. The 14-year-old is a big fan of the US President-elect and wanted to show his support. "He's a really good role model and everybody is talking about him, I think he'll do well in America," he said. Barber Clint Rainford, from Montsho's hair salon in Leicester, took 45 minutes to create the image of Obama and is now expecting the craze to catch on. "I knew at the start of the campaign that Obama would be voted president, so I kept a photo ready to do this," he said.

"I've done lots of people before such as Bob Marley and Nelson Mandela, so it wasn't too difficult to do the image.
"I think it could become a bit of a craze among teenagers and young adults."
Kwame, from Leicester, said the image would probably grow out within three weeks but he would have it cut back in again.
"I want to have it for Christmas," he added.
