A swarm of wheels robots designed to gang up and destroy tanks is in development.
US robotics firm Swarmbotics AI says the ground-based autonomous systems are designed to operate in coordinated swarms.
The new unmanned ground vehicle is named FireAnt and designed to detect, track, and engage heavy armour targets, such as tanks, while operating in groups under a single human operator.
Its payloads are designed to be quickly interchangeable in the field, allowing operators to adapt the robots for different mission profiles without needing to return to base.
Each swarm can function semi-independently, sharing targeting data and adapting to changing battlefield conditions in real-time.
FireAnt is part of a modular family of small, low-cost unmanned vehicles built for multiple missions, including reconnaissance, mapping, data relay, and anti-armour operations.
Swarmbotics said FireAnt’s design emphasises swarm autonomy, where robots coordinate their movements and tasks without direct human control.
