The Oasis of the Seas, the world's largest cruise ship, is officially unveiled, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, America - 20 Nov 2009
WORLD'S LARGEST GBP 800M CRUISE SHIP UNVEILED

The world's largest and most expensive cruise liner has officially been unveiled to the public.

The 1,200-foot (360-metre) Oasis of the Seas was commissioned by Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines and comes with a GBP 800 million price tag.

Nearly six years in the making, the ship has 16 passenger decks, putting the highest 65 metres above the waterline.

At 1,187 feet (360 metres) long and 208 feet (65 metres) wide, it can hold 6,296 guests in total, along with 2,165 crew.

It boasts 2,706 guest staterooms, of which 1,956 have a balcony overlooking either the sea, Central Park or the Boardwalk.

The mammoth vessel is broken down in several different areas: Central Park, the Boardwalk, Pool & Sports Zone, Royal Promenade, Vitality at Sea Spa & Fitness, Entertainment Place and the Youth Zone.

Bringing the outdoors indoors, Central Park is the first ever living park at sea.

Located at the centre of the ship, it is open to the sky above and features 12,175 plants including 93 different plant varieties, 62 vine plants and 56 trees and bamboo.

The Boardwalk area has been inspired by traditional seaside piers and stretches for over 255 feet (77 metres).

As its centrepiece its boasts a carousel featuring 18 wooden figures, such as zebras, giraffes, lions and horses, which each took over six weeks to make.

The Boardwalk is also home to numerous cafes, shops and carnival games and, at the very end, the AquaTheater - an amphitheatre style pool and performance area.

The AquaTheater pool is the largest and deepest at sea; with seating for 735 people, it will play host to professional diving and theatrical performances.

    Meanwhile, the Royal Promena...

LIFTING FOR GOLD AT CHINA'S SPORTS ACADEMIES

A town in south China is the centre of weight lifting for the country's vast sports training machine - a machine that is aimed solely at transforming children into Olympic champions. In total, 22 world championship gold medals and four Olympic medals have come out of the Shilong Sports School in Guangdong province. As Richard Jones discovered, many of the children in these kinds of Olympic medal factories aim to become rich but, in reality, most will end in poverty.

Liu Kai Long steps up to the bar. Unblinking, staring straight ahead he grunts and screams. In one swift movement 120 kilos, double his body-weight, is thrown over his head. "Stop your screaming," shouts his coach, "it wastes your energy." At just fifteen years of age Long is one of the next generations of "champions" according to head coach Lai Run Ming.

Coach Ming should know, he won a silver medal at the 1984 Los Angeles games and a bronze four years later in Seoul. He spends every day watching his young charges, perfecting their technique and building up their bodies.

During his intensive two and a half hour training session with Long, Coach Ming urges the teenager to lift more than 40 tones. For 30 minutes, sweat poring from his grimacing face, Long practices power lifting, during which lifts up to 240 kilos a time. For a further hour he then perfects his technique of the "snatch" and the "clean and jerk". His only break is a short opportunity to wander off to get some sugary water. "I j...

    CELEBRITY TROUT POUTS

They can deny it all they want but one look at these before and after photos and it's clear that certain celebrities have been found pout; unable to hide the fact they've indulged in a subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) bit of lip plumping.

Brittany Murphy is the most recent celeb to unveil her full on trout pout, flaunting her puffed up lips at New York fashion week. But, despite being the latest, she certainly isn't the only celeb rumoured to have gone for a lift in the lip department.

Courtney certainly didn't Love her lips and pumped up the volume like any self respecting rock femme fatale would. Meanwhile, never one to ignore a new fashionable trend, Donatella Versace quickly jumped on the plumped up pout bandwagon to gets lips to match her overblown personality.

However, questions still remain over whether Keira Knightley let go of her pride and ignored the prejudice in order to boost her distinctly skinny lips. And did princess of pop Kylie crack when she just couldn't get the thought of luscious lips out of her head?

Lara Flynn Boyle credits her lipstick for enhancing her natural assets, and would be far from tickled pink if anyone suggested otherwise. Liz Hurley obviously knows the secret because her kissers have been seriously kicked up a gear since 1994.

Poor Melanie Griffith looks like a poorly-ranked prize fighter, albeit one who has pumped too much collagen rather than weights. And, speaking of collagen, surely by now the stuff must make up at least 90% of Pamela Anderson's body?

The prize for the most misshapen lips must go to queen of the trout pout, Leslie Ash. In comparison even Patsy Kensit's king-sized kissers look almost normal.

Without her ever present pout Victoria Beckham might actually (gasp!)...

BOMB PROOF TOWNS 100 FEET UNDERGROUND TO HOUSE LONDON 'S POPULATION IN AIR RAIDS

The first of London 's great underground towns - capable of holding oer 8000 people from the danger of bombs, gas or shells, and so far beneath the surface of the streets that a battle could be fought above it without harming the inhabitants, have just been completed. These great shelters - self contained with their own living quarters, eating, sleeping, medical and amenities - are all about 100 feet below the ground level. there are to be eight of these great towns beneath a city - four north and four south of the Thames, and all are built in the galleries of tunnels which after the war will contain new underground railway systems.
Banks in the main tunnels are built on a folding system so that they can be folded back giving a clear space for social or welfare purposes.
