    The tomb of Cardinal Richelieu in the Sorbonne chapel. The powerful Richelieu (1585-1642) was chief minister to King Louis XIII of France, and in 1622, was elected principal of the Sorbonne. During his tenure, he presided over the renovation of college buildings, including the construction of the chapel. During the French Revolution, Richelieu's body was exhumed and some of his body parts are said to have been scattered.     Entrance to the Sorbonne from the Rue des Ecoles. This hallway is known as the Gallery of Humanities - and leads to the Grand Amphitheatre. When the university was created, it was built in a symmetrical way with humanities on one side and sciences on the other. The plaque on the left shows important donors to the university.
