A new artificial intelligence-powered device is promising to help train dogs not to bark.
The gadget, called Hush Puppy, is a collar that trains pets using behavioural conditioning.
It is said to be designed to teach dogs to be quite at the right times in the right location.
It has two modes, training and warning.
In training mode, if it detects barking, it sends a safe “reminder” in the form of a vibration and a beep.
In warning mode, a mild static stimulus is added to the training response.
This is delivered by a single AAA battery at a fixed electricity level to ensure the safety of the dog while still delivering a memorable nudge to help develop good behaviour.
Over time, it is said the repetition will help dogs quieten down when they hear or feel the stimulus.
HushPuppy uses tiny AI in sound detection which the US company says allows for precise differentiation between dog barks and other common domestic and outdoor noises like alarms, bells, laughter, people screaming, door slamming, car horns which can set off less sophisticated training models.
It also learns to recognise the bark only of the pet wearing the collar.
The maker, AI tech firm Onchip.AI, says HushPuppy is designed to be completely safe and comfortable for pets to wear.
