A hidden tram tunnel has been used to help build the Crossrail line 100ft beneath the West End. The disused, Grade II listed Kingsway Tram Subway once carried Edwardian commuters from the old Holborn station to stops en route to Highbury, Tower Bridge and Kennington. Now it is being cleaned up after Crossrail engineers used it to pump cement-like grouting into the ground to make it stable enough for 1,000-tonne boring machines to cut through the London clay. Richard Storer, Community relations manager for Crossrail pictured in the Kingsway Tram Tunnel.

MIDEAST-JERUSALEM-LIGHT TRAIN
(110819) -- JERUSALEM, Aug. 19, 2011 (Xinhua) -- Jewish residents take Jerusalem's Light Train in Jerusalem Aug. 19, 2011. After eight months of trial runs and years of delays, the Jerusalem light rail service started serving Friday morning, with travel on the trains free of charge for the first two weeks. The controversial light rail system, initiated in 2002, has been riddled with delays following political, structural and economic setbacks. Construction of the first line began in 2002 and ended in 2010, when field testing began. During construction, the project has been criticized locally for the numerous delays, poor financial management, generating air and noise pollution, and internationally for passing through parts of East Jerusalem.
