Andrea in her cabin crew days (Collect/PA Real Life) *** Globetrotting foodie's beautiful "focaccia bread
paintings" are shared 100,000 times online
By Ross Kaniuk, PA Real Life
A globetrotting foodie has become the talk of the menu after pictures she posted online of
her incredible "focaccia bread paintings" were shared 100,000 times.
Growing up in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Andrea Hussey, 46, who helps runs Zest - a cafe
serving low carb high fat food for keto diets - in Doha, Qatar, settled in the Middle East
after meeting her pilot husband, Don, 59, while working as an air stewardess .
Now the self-taught cookery expert has combined her culinary expertise with her art
school training to "paint" amazing paintings on focaccia bread - using colourful
ingredients from around the world including radishes, red and purple onions, roasted red
peppers, anthuriums, basil, olives, and chillis.
Andrea, who has a son Ryan, 12, said: I just do the focaccias to relax some people
paint, I decorate focaccias.
"But since I posted some photos, theyve been viewed nearly 100,000 times. I even had a
friend in Florida saying her best friend in Cuba had enjoyed seeing something that had my
name on.
Taking Fridays off, as they are seen as holy in the Muslim country, she gathers together
her ingredients many of which are grown in her living room out of the sun - before
devoting up to six hours to each focaccia artwork.
Often mistaken for beautiful paintings by her online followers, she gives some away as
gifts, while her son loves tucking into them. But she never eats them herself, because of
her low carb keto eating plan.
Diners at Zest, where she is co-founder, also benefit from her design flair, though, which
influences all their dishes.
She explained: I devise the menu, which we rotate and I like to make it interesting and to
look visually nice. I do love plating because of the visual creative element.
