Germany is halting the controversial Nord Stream 2 pipeline in light of Russia's incursion into Ukraine, Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on Tuesday Feb 22, 2022. The undersea pipeline, meant to ferry natural gas directly from Russia to northern Germany, is owned by a subsidiary of Russia's state-owned Gazprom. Berlin has previously been reluctant to impose sanctions that would affect Nord Stream 2. But at a press conference Tuesday, Scholz said that the situation today is fundamentally different and therefore, in light of recent events, we must also reassess this situation ... also with regard to Nord Stream 2. Shortly after, the economy ministry announced it was halting the certification process

Photographer Malte Brandenburg said:"Initially these buildings meant a vast improvement of life for the middle class in Berlin. They provided more space and were affordable, didn?t cost much in construction and were built quickly. However with time, these buildings were not really needed anymore by their initial inhabitants. Suddenly they turned into a burden for the city as the urban lifestyle of its citizens changed and efficient and cheap housing was not of real interest anymore for the masses."

A photographer has captured a series of charming photos of Berlin's post-war housing apartment blocks.

The pictures show perfectly symmetrical concrete apartment blocks, pictured against blue skies.

Copenhagen-based photographer Malte Brandenburg, 37, travelled back to his birth place (Berlin) to capture the photo series 'Stacked'.

Malte said: "I wanted to highlight the architectural structure of these buildings rather than their social context. I think by making them comparable you notice that they all have something in common, but that the architects still maintained their individual small little features.

"For me they are not ugly leftovers from past decades in a city?s skyline. I find they tell a story, which is still relevant today, namely the tension between engineering and the human element.

A photographer has captured a series of striking images of Cuba's Wi-Fi 'Revolution'.

Photographer Valerio Berdini captured a series of images that show Cuban faces illuminated by mobile phone light, as many browse the internet on their mobile phone devices for the first time.

In June 2015 Cuban citizens gained access to Wi-Fi for the first time when Cuban government-owned telecommunication company, ETECSA, began installing 35 Wi-Fi hotspots in the parks of the main cities.

Until that date the web in Cuba was an affair limited to the guests of few luxury hotels and some official state offices.

Like the buses the trucks are meant to resemble a beautiful bride. By looking at the various motifs, designs and use of colours onboard these trucks you can tell which part of the country it belongs to. This particular truck makes use of greens and reds most so it probably belongs to Sindh - the province in which Karachi is. Buses or trucks that have murals of mountains and peacocks most likely belong to the mountainous north of the country

Scaredy-cat tiger runs away from rampaging bull that is meant to be lunch, Yancheng Zoo, Changzhou, China - Feb 2010
TENTATIVE TIGER IS SCAREDY CAT WHEN LUNCH ATTACKS

He was meant to be an easy lunch for a hungry tiger but this bull wasn't going to go down without a fight.

The dramatic encounter between the two beasts took place at Yancheng Zoo in Changzhou, eastern China.

The bull was let into the tiger enclosure of Tang Bai Hu, who has been bred in captivity.

With live prey to stalk and bring down, keepers were hoping that the exercise would put Tang Bai Hu in touch with his wild side.

However, the angry bull wasn't going to take it lying down and very firmly turned the lunch table on the white tiger.

And Tang Bai Hu turned out to be something of a scaredy-cat, turning tail and fleeing when the bull turned on him.

To begin with the tentative tiger tried out some moves on the young bull, latching onto its hind quarters and trying to bite its neck.

But he didn't appreciate it when the bull turned round and went on the attack, pinning Tang Bai Hu to the floor and getting in a few good kicks.

After this 15-year-old Tang obviously decided enough was enough and decided to keep out of the bullying bull's way.

Exhausted he flopped to the ground and quit the chase, much to the amusement of the audience outside the fence.

The pampered pussycat is more used to being fed with chopped up chicken and beef.

Despite his failure keepers are determined to test Tang again in the future but will begin by feeding him something slightly easier next time - live chickens.

"We will try again but he has been getting room service for so long he's lost any instinct he ever had for killing his own food," said zoo spokesman Chang Yihai.

Despite his failure keepers are determined to test Tang again in the future but will begin by feeding him something slightly easier next time - live chickens.

"We will try again but he has been getting room service for so long he's lost any instinct he ever had for killing his own food," said zoo spokesman Chang Yihai.
