    NEW TRACK FOR ' SPLIT '

    Squire Francis ( ' Split ') Waterman, Wembley is dashing Speedway ace, signing his new contract, watched by Major Rodney Dave, general manager of the Harringay (London) Speedway, today at Ludgate house, fleet Street, London. Waterman, the popular international rider, transferred to Harringay at his own request.
    The Speedway control board has approved the transfer, said to involve a £3, 000 fee. Waterman lives at new Morden, Surrey.

    RECORD BREAKER TO BE NEW MALTA AIR CHIEF

    Pictured at the Air Ministry in London is a Commodore N.H.D'Aeth , C.B.E., who has been appointed air officer commanding, Air Headquarters, Malta with acting rank of air Vice-Marshal.
    He begins his new duties early November.
    Born in January, 1901, at Wakefield and educated at the royal naval colleges Osborne and Dartmouth, he transferred to the R.A.F.in 1920.
    He has for nearly two years been Director of Navigation and control at the Air Ministry, having previously spent 2 1/2 years as Commandant of the Empire Air Navigation School.
    During his period as Commandant, Air Commodore D' Aeth captained the Lancaster ' Aries' on its record-breaking flights to India , Australia and New Zealand in August 1946, and also on its non-stop records fly from Cairo to Cape Town.

    The salon in Oxford Street, London of a well known West End dressmaker has been converted into a Womens Labour Exchange Bureau. It was formally opened by Mr Ralph Assheton, Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Labour.

    Photo Shows: Mrs Georgina Harrison, of 5 Kinneal Road, Fulham, one of the first to be interviewed at the new Womens Labour Exchange Bureau. She is seen filling in a form, on which she stated a preference for aircraft work, at present she is employed at a West End dressmakers Mrs Harrison is 25 and her husband is a photographer in the RAF

    US EMBASSY STAFF FORBIDDEN TO LEAVE ROME WITHOUT SPECIAL PERMISSION

    Mr William Phillips, the United States Ambassador to Italy, and all members of the Embassy staff, have been forbidden to leave rome without special permission from the Italian authorities. It is expected that the order will shortly apply to all foreign diplomats in Rome, with probable exception of the Germans.
