The prop lightsaber wielded by Darth Vader in the second and third Star Wars movies has come to auction — and is expected to fetch more than $3 million USD / €2.63 million euros.
Vader’s screen-matched weapon was seen in both The Empire Strikes Back released in 1980 and Return of the Jedi in 1983.
It used in the climactic battles at the end of both movies between Vader, played by UK actor Dave Prowse but voiced by US star James Earl Jones, and Luke Skywalker, played by Mark Hamill.
In The Empire Strikes Back, the duel takes place in Cloud City, culminating in Vader severing Luke's hand and revealing he is Luke's father.
In Return of the Jedi, the final confrontation is on the Second Death Star, ultimately leading to Vader's death.
It is being sold by UK and USA based film memorabilia specialist auction house Propstore.
Chief operating officer Brandon Alinger says it could be worth upwards of $3 million plus simply based on past sales of Star Wars movie props.
