    The traditional Christmas address was started by her father King George V, by radio on the BBC in 1932. The Queen made her first radio address from Sandringham House on Christmas Day 1952, and the annual message was first shown on TV in 1957. The monarch has talked to the Commonwealth every year since except 1969
