ZSL London Zoo Reveal Animal Photography 2014 Prize Winners
ZSL Animal Photography Prize 2014 winners have been revealed today.
The Zoological Society of London are exhibiting the winning images from the annual photography competition.
A stunning image of a panther chameleon (Furcifer pardalis), framed by a backdrop of jungle foliage as it snares its prey with alarming accuracy, is today (Thursday) revealed as the winning image of the ZSL Animal Photography Prize 2014.
Captured by photographer Simone Sbaraglia, the photograph has been awarded the coveted top prize in the third annual animal photography competition, run by international conservation charity, the Zoological Society of London (ZSL).
The winning photograph, picked from thousands of entries, will be on display at ZSL London Zoo from Friday 19 September.
Mr Sbaraglia spent days waiting to capture the perfect shot, in a bid to encourage more people to connect with nature. He said: "I spent a significant amount of time trying to learn the animal's behaviour to try and anticipate this moment. After several days I was able to achieve the picture that I was looking for.
"I hope that when people see it they are amazed by this animal, connect with nature and learn to love and respect it."
The competition has six categories for adult and junior entrants, including Last Chance to See and Size Matters. The winning images were chosen by a panel of judges including ZSL Honorary Conservation Fellow and television presenter Kate Humble and ornithologist Bill Oddie.
