Supporters of the nation's current government point to the recent empowerment of the poor, while critics contend that Venezuela has become nothing more than the younger sibling of the Cuban Revolution, ruled by an autocratic leader who has bungled the economy. ///

Ayurveda, India's 5000 year-old medicine
December 5, 2012 - Thrissur, India: Ashtavaidyan E.T. Divakaran Mooss stands in the garden of the Aatma Ayurvedic Centre. Mooss runs the center with his son Ashtavaidyan E.T. Ravi Mooss. Thanks to the devotion of a few families of Ashtavaidyans, the name for Ayurvedic doctors, the 5,000 year-old tradition of Ayurvedic medicine is kept alive in Kerala. The Mooss family comes from a long lineage of renowned Ayurvedic practitioners starting with Thaikkattu Mooss. Ayurveda, which means "life knowledge", emphasizes re-establishing balance in the body through diet, lifestyle, exercise, and body cleansing, and on the health of the mind, body, and spirit. This creates an environment for purifying the body naturally, which eliminates all toxic imbalances, enabling a patient maintain natural resistance to diseases and sustained good health. Because Ayurveda emphasizes preventative rather than reactive care of diseases, treatment is given to the person as a whole. Ayurveda as a form of alternative medicine has gained rapid recognition all over the world. (Subhash Sharma /Polaris) (FOTO:DUKAS/POLARIS)
