POSTMAN CAT
Early in the morning, just as day is dawning in Dorset, Postman Pat and his ginger-and-white cat can be seen making their rounds.
In what could be a scene straight from the children's classic TV show, when postman Terry Grinter, 46, goes about his job of delivering the post he has a side-kick who comes along for the ride - Beezley the cat.
The pair, with Beezley sitting in the basket of Terry's bike, are now a common sight around Lyme Regis.
Along the route Terry often gets stopped by people asking if the six-year-old ginger-and-white tom is called Jess. But, in reality, Beezley isn't even Terry's.
Their unlikely partnership began after cat-lover Terry got into the regular habit of giving Beezley a stroke.
"I'm a cat-lover so I always used to stroke him," comments Terry." The first time I lifted him into my basket I expected him to jump straight out. But he's quite happy to stay there".
The friendly feline now laps up all the fuss and attention he receives and hops on board with Terry twice a week.
However, he doesn't quite understand the point of delivering the letters that make a comfy bed for him. In the past he has even given Terry a nip when the postie tried to lift him out of the basket.
In fact, Beezley only leaves his comfortable perch when he feels that he is straying too far from his owner's home.
And while Terry takes to his bike come rain or shine, he says that Beezley is very firmly a fair weather cat.
