A new dinosaur study claims small tyrannosaurs previous thought to be juvenile T.Rex specimens were actually a separate mini species.

Analysis of fossils shows the small tyrannosaur had narrower jaws, longer legs, and bigger arms than its giant rival.

The species, Nanotyrannus lancensis, was first named decades ago but later reinterpreted as a young T. Rex

The first skull of Nanotyrannus was found in Montana in the USA in 1942, but for decades, palaeontologists conflicted whether it was separate species, or simply a juvenile of the much larger T. rex.

Researchers Dr Nick Longrich, from the UK’s University of Bath and Dr Evan Saitta, from the University of Chicago in the USA re-analysed the fossils.

They looked at growth rings in the bones, which show development similar to growth rings in trees, the anatomy of Nanotyrannus, and a previously unrecognised fossil of a young T. rex.

Londoners were amazed to see a 30 foot long T.rex today, strapped to a flatbed truck, apparently taking the final journey to its autopsy. Bearing a giant toe tag and only partially covered by blood-soaked sheets, the drooling prehistoric beast stunned and delighted thousands of witnesses as it took a scenic route through the busy streets from 7am this morning, with only rush hour standing between the dinosaur and its dissection. Causing intrigue from the streets of Brixton, through Central London and passing the Houses of Parliament, Trafalgar Square, London Bridge and Buckingham Palace along the way, the T. rex triggered mass speculation on social media all morning before National Geographic Channel revealed it was a stunt to promote the broadcast of two-hour special T. rex Autopsy this Sunday evening at 8pm.

    Surprised commuters

Commuters in London got a shock today when a full-size T.Rex was transported through the streets of the Capital. Bemused passers-by watched as the giant 30ft long model, which was partially covered by a blood stained operating sheet, was driven past landmarks such as the Big Ben and the London Eye. The prehistoric beast was promoting the broadcast of the two-hour special T.Rex Autopsy this Sunday on National Geographic Channel at 8pm. The show will quite literally 'go inside' a full-size T.Rex for the first time ever to reveal how the 65-mliion-year-old beast may have lived.
