    QUEEN MOTHER MEMORIAL UNVEILED

The Queen Mother has been immortalised in bronze today after a sculpture of her was unveiled near Buckingham Palace.

She was joined at the ceremony by other senior royals, including Prince Charles, his wife the Duchess of Cornwall, and sons, Princes William and Harry.

The Duke of York, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, the Princess Royal and the Earl and Countess of Wessex were also all in attendance.

Members of the Bowes-Lyon family, who are relations of the Queen Mother, also gathered for the ceremony as well as Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

The centrepiece of the memorial is a bronze statue of the Queen Mother at the age of 51, the year she was widowed.

The Prince of Wales described the 9ft 6in sculpture, which shows the Queen Mother wearing the Order of the Garter Robes and her famous smile, as a fitting tribute to his "darling" grandmother.

"At long last my grandparents are reunited in this joint symbol, which in particular reminds us of all they stood for and meant to so many during the darkest days this country has ever faced," he said

"Today we remember them both with joy mingled with sadness, but also intense gratitude for the role they performed with such consummate grace and inspiration".

This statue is flanked by two bronze reliefs. One shows the King and Queen on a walkabout in London during the Second World War, when the Royal Family defied Foreign Office advice to remain in London.

The second panel depicts the Queen Mother's passion for animals. In one scene she is being applaude...
