Believe It or Not, These Are CAKES!
BELIEVE IT OR NOT, THESE ARE CAKES!

Anyone looking to enjoy a savoury bite of these meals may get a surprise - they are ultra-realistic cakes!

And these doggies look cute enough to take a bite out of, which is lucky as they are also the creation of baking-genius Debbie Goard.

The 41-year-old has spent two decades creating sensational sweet treats based on animals and real-life objects.

She can create edible art works in the form of almost anything her customers ask for.

Her San Francisco-based Debbie Does Cakes company is so good she says "my cakes often get mistaken for real objects, most notably, the life-sized Chihuahua cake that compelled restaurant patrons to exclaim 'why is there a dog on the table?!'"

Highlights of her creature cakes, which start from $200, include a giraffe, a warthog and a scary scorpion - the latter commission for a five-year-old's birthday.

While onlookers will get a surprise when you tuck into a tasty cake made to look like a camera, a Blackberry or even a pair of sneakers.

Debbie explains: "By drawing on influences of pop culture, fashion and art I strive to make edible objects d'art to be admired and devoured."

    PENINSULAR OF PARADISE

The bustling mix of colours, cultures, cuisines and astounding coastlines that Malaysia reveals to those intrepid enough to uncover its charms prove that one of Asia's lesser-visited countries is in fact one of its most hidden treasures.

First colonized by the Portuguese, Dutch, and then the British, Malaysia preserves the moment in time in which West first met East. Towns such as the former Portuguese port of Melaka and the old British stronghold of Georgetown on the island of Penang are testament to Malaysia's rich historical past that so easily merges with the modern vivacity and energy of present-day Asia.

The raw charm of modern Malaysia - busy, animated, alive with colours, sounds and people - reveal that the country is truly at the crossroads of Asia. The historical confluence of cultures, flavours, and religions evident in the mix of ethnic Chinese, Malay, Indian and Muslim cultures combine to create a Babel of exotic architecture, cuisines and languages.

Malaysia's modern day capital, Kuala Lumpur, is a heady melange of bright lights, modern skyscrapers, traffic jams and onion-shaped Mosque domes. The city's iconic Petronas Towers watch over the brightly coloured headscarves of local women going to market in Little India, the exotic smells of Cantonese food stalls in the thick humid air of Chinatown, and the cries of small street side traders selling yellow, pimpled durians - the national fruit. Malaysia's national flag of bright red and blue primary colours blows in the wind along Merdaka Square, with its beautiful English Tudor-style buildings and green lawn - a sharp juxtaposition to the colonial days of the past. Walking along the shabby yet charming streets, alive with the buzz of ...

(081217) -- GAZA, Dec. 17, 2008 (Xinhua) -- A Palestinian farmer harvests strawberries at a field in northern Gaza Strip town of Beit Lahiya, Dec. 17, 2008. The town was famous for its strawberry which used to be exported to Europe, but due to the closure of Gaza Strip crossings and the Israeli banning on any kind of export from the Hamas-controlled Strip, farmers there have suffered great loss with their income sharply reduced. The Lightning Bolt
    THE LIGHTNING BOLT

Now looking to become as much a Jamaican household name as Bob Marley or Marcus Garvey, Usain Bolt has taken the Beijing Olympics by storm.

His achievements of winning gold and breaking the world records in the 100m and 200m finals have somehow managed to overshadow even the heroics of American swimmer Michael Phelps and his record-breaking tally of gold medals in the pool.

Bolt was born August 21st 1986 and grew up in Trelawny, Jamaica, the son of Jennifer and Wellesley Bolt and brother to Sherine. As a child his first love was cricket in which he first achieved success playing in annual national primary schools' meetings for his parish. His height and speed made him look set for a possible career as a fast bowler.

However, upon his entry to William Knibb Memorial High School his cricket coach noted his exceptional speed around the pitch and urged him to take up track and field events under the coaching of Pablo McNeil and Dwayne Barrett, who enhanced his athletic abilities.

By the time he was 15, Bolt had already reached his peak height of 6ft 5in, making him literally stand out from his peers. He was spurred on by an idolisation of Jamaican athletic heroes Herb McKenley and Don Quarrie, as well as his admiration for the great Michael Johnson of the USA.

What followed was a rise to the top of his profession almost as quick as his speed on the track itself. As a junior sprinter he began shattering records left, right and centre, first on a nation...

LIVERPOOL: 2008 EUROPEAN CAPITAL OF CULTURE

Steeped in culture and with a rich history in popular music, performing, and visual arts, it is little surprise that the city of Liverpool is the European Capital of Culture 2008.

The city's most famous export is of course the Beatles, and there are a wealth of attractions and sites throughout the city all to do with the four mop-topped musicians.

The Beatles Story at the Albert Docks is a must for any Beatles fan. It is the only museum in the world that is entirely Beatles-themed, with exhibitions such as their instruments and other artifacts.

Undoubtedly the most famous club in the world, the Cavern Club was the birthplace of a music revolution that changed things forever. The club witnessed almost 300 performances by the Beatles and it was here that Paul McCartney played his last gig of the 20th century.

Visitors can also take a stop at Penny Lane and Strawberry fields, as made famous by the Beatles' songs.

Following a tiring day of sight-seeing tourists can choose to lay their heads down in either the Lennon or McCartney suites at the Hard Days Night Hotel - a Fab Four-themed hotel.

It's even possible to take a magical mystery tour on a yellow submarine over the river Mersey from the Albert Docks.

These docks are a tourist hotspot in Liverpool. Originally built between 1841-1848 as a prosperous working dock, the Albert Dock underwent a major restoration and has been converted into shops, apartments, restaurants and pubs.

As well as the Beatles story the dock is also home to the Merseyside Maritime Museum, ...
