'Love' in the dirt in the Lower 9th Ward. Katrina devastated the area smashing almost all residences following the collapse of the levees. Whereas Brad Pitt's 'Make it Right Foundation' has provided a stimulus for rebuilding a limited area of the Lower 9th ward, much remains to be done as the 7th year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina approaches on August 29th.

Skill of carving cloud patterns on lacquers, a traditional Chinese handicraft, could date back to ancient China's Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368), which is almost lost in recent day. Chen Qinli, a handicraftsman who has been working on the production and design of lacquers with cloud patterns, opened a lacquer carving workshop in Xinjiang County two years ago, dedicating himself to preserve and develop the valuable skill. With Chen's efforts, various kinds of household lacquer products with cloud patterns have been produced by the workshop and become popular at the markets in cities such as Beijing and Shanghai. A magnificent lifesize marble sculpture of the brain of Einstein has just been completed by Bristol Stonemason and artist Michael Blow. Mike has carved the brain using original photographs as templates. The marble which the brain is carved from is from Michelangelo's statuary, the same quarry and the same stone as Michelangelo used to carve David. Mike's sculpture is one of the last pieces of stone to be taken from the quarry, which is now shut.
The sculpture is to be part of Mike's application to join the British society of sculptors.
