Three generations of Mexican fisherman work to pick, sort, and clean a huge catch from their gill net in San Ignacio Lagoon, Baja California Sur, Mexico. The men usually fish and clean the gill net, the women traditionally clean the fish while their children play nearby. The going rate for this catch was about 80 cents USD per kilo of cleaned fish. Anglers get air minded - balloon and parachute in latest fishing tackle.
The Kytoon , a cross between a balloon and a kite and the latest thing in surf fishing tackle , is in use by fishermen at Martha's Vineyard , Mass, USA. A six-foot long balloon , reminiscent of the wartime barrage balloon , is floated out over the surf and then a parachute is hitched to a monorail device to which is attached the end of a fishing line , bait and a rubber balloon float. The parachute catches the wind and is whisked off till stopped by a tripper some 2,000 feet away. The tripper drops bait, line and float. The monorail trolley and parachute then slide back down the line to the fishermen. The contraption enables the angler to get his bait out as far as 2,000 feet over the surf as against 80 yards for the conventional hand cast.
