Boy George's brother upset after hearing his brothers sentence
Family members of Boy George react to his 15 month jail sentence, Snaresbrook Crown Court, London, Britain - 16 Jan 2009
Boy George's brother was visibly upset and had to be physically restrained by other relatives today after hearing that the singer-turned-DJ had been sentenced to 15 months in jail. Last year Boy George - real name George O'Dowd - was found guilty of falsely imprisoning a male escort at his flat in Shoreditch. According to Norwegian escort Audun Carlsen, 29, he was beaten with a metal chain as he tried to escape the musician's flat. George admitted to police that he handcuffed Mr Carlsen to his bed at his flat in Shoreditch on April 28 2007, while he investigated alleged tampering with his computer. However, he denied assaulting the escort. At the sentencing at Snaresbrook Crown Court this afternoon the judge commented that Boy George was guilty of "gratuitous violence". He condemned his "premeditated", "callous", and "degrading" drug-fuelled actions which "traumatised" his victim.

LIVERPOOL: 2008 EUROPEAN CAPITAL OF CULTURE

Steeped in culture and with a rich history in popular music, performing, and visual arts, it is little surprise that the city of Liverpool is the European Capital of Culture 2008.

The city's most famous export is of course the Beatles, and there are a wealth of attractions and sites throughout the city all to do with the four mop-topped musicians.

The Beatles Story at the Albert Docks is a must for any Beatles fan. It is the only museum in the world that is entirely Beatles-themed, with exhibitions such as their instruments and other artifacts.

Undoubtedly the most famous club in the world, the Cavern Club was the birthplace of a music revolution that changed things forever. The club witnessed almost 300 performances by the Beatles and it was here that Paul McCartney played his last gig of the 20th century.

Visitors can also take a stop at Penny Lane and Strawberry fields, as made famous by the Beatles' songs.

Following a tiring day of sight-seeing tourists can choose to lay their heads down in either the Lennon or McCartney suites at the Hard Days Night Hotel - a Fab Four-themed hotel.

It's even possible to take a magical mystery tour on a yellow submarine over the river Mersey from the Albert Docks.

These docks are a tourist hotspot in Liverpool. Originally built between 1841-1848 as a prosperous working dock, the Albert Dock underwent a major restoration and has been converted into shops, apartments, restaurants and pubs.

As well as the Beatles story the dock is also home to the Merseyside Maritime Museum, which has exhibitions on every part of Liverpool's history, from the cotton mills and the primitive port o...

I got up here so surely there must be a way down again!?

Say hello to the hottest new dance in town - the Madagascar monkey walk.

Hamish was a little concerned by the gawping face he encountered underwater Ö then he realised it was just his owner.

Law of the jungle gym 101: always stretch after a spell on the monkey bars.

After a ruff day there's nothing Blue likes better than a few pints and a game of pool down his local.

Hhhhmmmmmm it would seem that someone was telling porkies about just how to make bacon.

Better, stronger, faster: Dougal the bionic canine proves nothing can keep a good dog down.

With studied nonchalance feline Jerry soon becomes the cat that has not only got the cream, but the mouse too.

With rising shopping prices driving up the price of a tin of whiskers desperate action was called for.

What a real ray of sunshine.

The giraffe drive-thru was proving to be a resounding success.

After the popularity of soap on a rope, manufacturers were unable to work out why their latest product had proven to be such a dud.

Now all he needed was someone to seal away with him.

In a real feat of doggy dare doing concerted efforts are made to beat the canine land speed record.

Cursing those global warming causing humans, polar bears have been left scrabbling for any flotation device they can find after the last of the ice has melted.
