  • Driver caught speeding 22 times on same London road in 3 weeks

Driver caught speeding 22 times on same London road in 3 weeks
A laundry delivery driver faces having 81 penalty points put on his licence after being caught speeding 22 times on the same stretch of road in less than three weeks.

Peter McPherson, 58, racked up the offences during his shifts for Galicia Laundry, which provides linen, towels and clothing to hotels, spas and restaurants in London. He has admitted committing the offences on a 30mph stretch of the A40 Westway flyover between July 15 and August 1 last year.

On July 15 alone, he was caught by average speed cameras on four occasions. A temporary 30mph restriction was imposed on the Westway in 2020 during repairs but has now been made permanent. McPherson’s lawyers say he already has seven points on his licence and concede that he now faces up to 81.

Participants view Milky Way and Andromeda galaxy as campaigners bemoan restrictions on right to roam.

"Welcome to the night," beamed a right to roam campaigner welcoming a coach load of city dwellers to the pitch dark stillness of remote Northumberland countryside on a chilly September evening.

The passengers had been attracted by a secretive offer spread on Instagram and by old-school posters pinned up in Newcastle.

About 70 signed up. On Thursday, they arrived at about 8.15pm on land owned by the Duke of Northumberland near Rothbury. Off the bus, they were guided up to Lordenshaws iron age hill fort, where, if it had been light, they would have properly seen some of the UK's most abundant and wonderful neolithic rock art.
