Mid-Air Manoeuvres Of Acrobatic Sea-Eagle
Like an acrobat of the skies this majestic white-tailed sea eagle puts on an impressive mid-air display as it appears to fly almost sideways.
The bird's sensational manoeuvring was caught on camera by 16-year-old self taught wildlife photographer Will Nicholls while on a trip to the Isle of Skye in Scotland.
The young snapper, who won "Young British Wildlife Photographer of the Year" at the age of 14, was on a mission to photograph the huge variety of species that call the island home, but the white-tailed sea eagles were the ultimate draw.
Sea eagles are the largest birds of prey to be found in the UK. They were hunted almost to extinction in the 19th century because they were considered to be a threat to livestock and gamebirds. However, since the 1970s their numbers have been recovering steadily thanks to a re-introduction programme.
In order to capture these impressive birds on film Will and his companions set out early in a charter boat to spend several hours floating near to the eagles' perch.
Will, who aspires to follow in the footsteps of broadcasting naturalist Sir David Attenborough, comments: "At first the eagle looked like it was going to do what most other animals do, not co-operate and stay sitting in its nest watching us.
"However, after an hour and a half of waiting it eventually swooped down to the water's surface.
"I had to track it from the beginning of its flight all the way down to the water, taking pictures the whole time".
He adds: "You never really know what you have when looking at the LCD screen on your camera.
"A photograph could look amazing to you, but when you see it bigger on a computer it isn't as good as you thought it was.
"I had the feeling that I'd got a good shot, but I didn't know what it would ultimately lo...
