Send In The Clowns
Each year dozens of clowns gather at a church in London to pay their respects to the king of clowns.
On the first Sunday of every February, the event sees a 'parliament' of clowns descend upon the Holy Trinity Church in Dalston in full harlequin garb.
They come to honour Joseph Grimaldi, who died in 1837 and who is considered to be the inventor of the modern white-faced clown
The service is now in its 66 year and includes the lighting of a candle for any clowns who have passed away during the year and a thanksgiving for the gift of laughter.
It is followed by a special clown show for children.
The annual event started in 1947 to mark the beginning of the clowning year as well as the start of Clowns International - a world wide Organization for clowns.
Holy Trinity is now considered to be 'the clowns' church' and has a stained glass window depicting Grimaldi.
